Any advice about ordering invitations online?

I'm in the process of ordering the invitations for our July 2013 wedding! I received several samples from different companies! I was disappointed in a couple because they looked larger online. Another company sent all the samples I asked for and they looked nice but then I read a couple bad reviews online. A friend told me tonight she got her invitations at the Papyrus store and that it helped having a salesperson guide her though the decision making!

I would appreciate any advice or suggestions you all may have! Thank you in advance for your help!

Re: Any advice about ordering invitations online?

  • I ordered mine from David's onlne and loved them. Love the style and quality..nno issues here, except..I was debating on the "cost" of accomodations cards so I didn't order them off the bat...only to realize later, I can't get any "discount" ordering later since I didn't place the order WITH the invitations.....so I never ended up getting them due to cost
  • I loved my David's Bridal invitations.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I went to a stationary store and looked through their invitation books. When I found one I liked, we ordered online.

  • I went through 123print. They sent a sample I liked and we ordered them.Didn't have a problem whatsoever with them.

  • I am very happy with my VistaPrint invitations, they arrived very quickly. There are frequent Groupons to cut down on the cost. They'll send you a pack of sample invitations and envelopes, one of each type of paper.
  • I just received mine from magnetstreet.com and love them.  I ordered samples... and they were better looking than online.  and once I finalized the invitation, I ordered one so that I could see it for real...and love it.  They always have coupons and specials online/facebook...I had 25% off.  Working on assembling invites to get them out by Monday.  Will order a "thank you" note to be placed on each place-setting...matching invites.  Waiting on that for another month...
I had gotten samples from paperdivas.com also...they were great too, but a bit pricier.
    Good luck.
  • Invitations By Dawn was GREAT!  Ordered Sunday, they came yesterday!  Very affordable--look great!! Always have weekly promo codes, so I made it 2 weeks ago but saved it until a good sale came along-- over the weekend I got a 30% promo code, so if you have time to wait its worth waiting for!

  • I got mine from Vistaprint and they were great! I was signed up for their emails for a few months prior, and I always kept an eye out for Groupons. I got some awesome deals!

  • I just got my STD magnets from Vistaprint.  The magnets were nice, the the envelopes were AWFUL!  They were about the same quality as the ones I got in elementary school Valentine packs and my looked old and were dirty.  I had to buy new envelopes.  I took photos of the envelopes.
  • I got my invitations from theamericanwedding.com.  they were gorgeous.  I also got programs from vistaprint, and they were really high quality.
  • I used The Green Kangaroo for my invitations, and absolutely loved them.  The company isn't usually mentioned on these boards (maybe because they're higher priced than other companies?), but they have a lot of designs and are very high quality.  They often have promo codes on facebook, and I used one to save $100 off my order.  Sometimes they have promos for free samples too, so check them out!

  • I just ordered my stationary (invitations, rsvp cards, accomodation cards, escort cards, and thank you cards) from Wedding Paper Divas.  A friend of mine used them for her wedding and was very happy with them.  I placed the order last Saturday night and Tuesday evening I had digital proofs to review.  I requested a two changes (formatting on the accomodations card, and wording/font change on part of the rsvp card).  The changes were completed in under 20 minutes.  My fiancee and I reviewed again and approved the order for printing.  We should have them next week sometime.  I'm super nervous/excited to see the final products.

When we originally ordered samples from WPD, half of my order showed up promptly and half never showed up.  When I complained, they resent the entire order via fedex two day instead of USPS.  I was annoyed that the first shipment didn't arrive, but I thought they corrected the issue well.
  • I had a destination wedding last summer, so I wanted some custom Hawaii-inspired invitations.  I ended up saving a lot of money by ordering a custom digital design (PDF) through Etsy, then printing it myself with Vistaprint.  They had sales all the time, so I got a great deal.  However, you could print them anyway that is easy for you (Costco, your own printer, etc.)

That may be a fun way to get a design that you like, with a lower budget.  Here's a cute etsy shop for example that does custom designs:

  • Thanks everyone for all the advice! I think I have it narrowed down to one design from Wedding Paper Divas and three designs fromThe American Wedding! But I am going to go and look at Papyrus so I can actually talk to a person and see what options they have available!

I have a feeling it will be like choosing my dress, I'll know the invitation when I see it!  :-)
