Brides Maid Dress...question

So, the ladies I have pretty much decided to be brides maids are of all shapes and sizes. And to be honest, I am just not sure that I can find a dress that will look good on them all. I am thinking about just telling them to get tthe dress in a certain color and that way they can pick a dress that they will be comfortable in. However, I am concerned with how many shades of each color there are. Simply saying, " get green" is not nearly specific enough.
How should I go about this? TIA !

I've been in 2 weddings that did this and both brides told us the designer and color and then we picked the style we liked by that designer.  For example, one girl said "You can get any floor length dress at David's Bridal but it needs to be in the color periwinkle."  The other bride said "I love the color purple called 'plum' that Mori Lee makes.  You can choose any floor length dress that Mori Lee makes in 'plum."  We all matched beautifully in both occasions!

I picked a designer, color, and length and let my bridesmaids pick which style they liked best.  They all looked great and I think it worked out well!

If you don't want to to pick a certain designer then give them something thats the same color. Like my rose petals are the same colors that I'm using so that's what I've used to match things with.

Also, they say you should order them all the same time to make sure they're cut from the same dye lot (if you're going the same designer/different style route).  :)  However, if you give them a paint chip or fabric swatch in the color you like, and they just go out and find something that matches that, then it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm doing the same deisgner/different style way.  I think it looks good to have different styles as long as they're the same length and color.

You also may want to consider, depending on how picky you are about the color, the fabric of the dresses.  If you say you want DB horizon, it looks very different in cotton than in chiffon. Just a thought!  GL

I agree about the fabric...  It should be the same, ideally.  For example, satin looks so shiny but chiffon is matte.
