Second Line Advice

Hi girls~

I have been going back and forth about when to do the 2nd line and it is really stressing me out so I figured I would turn to you all for some advice/ opinions! This is a DW and 95% of my guests will be OOT so I want this be something really fun for them. That being said, I am getting married around 6:30pm in October at the Hermann-Grima House and the reception will follow at the Riverview Room in Jax Brewery. My initial thought was that we would do the second line after the reception once all of the OOT guests have loosened up a bit and have it end on/near Bourbon Street for them to continue on if they want to. Now I am wondering if I should do it from the ceremony to the reception instead? Just don't know if everyone will be ready to get "into" without a couple of drinks in them :) What do you all think?? TIA!

Katie

Usually it is done from the ceremony over to the reception as a practical matter of getting everyone from point A to point B.  But, I have seen it done all different ways...

With a crowd of locals, they will be into it & cuttin a rug no matter what...but with a crowd of OOTers who may not really know the deal, end of the night could be better.

My only thought is, once you get everyone to Bourbon, then what?  Do you have an after-party of some sort, or are the hotels where guests are staying somewhere near there?  I get that people can just go off where they want to, but it seems like it could be an awkward ending.  Are you going to say goodbye to the guests once you get to Bourbon, or have some sort of 'getaway' transportation where people will see you off?  I would just think about the logistics of how to end the night if you do it afterwards.

I think either way could work! Defintiely the guests will be more willing to party after the reception and you could always second line over to Pat O Briens for after reception drinks or have a carriage waiting there to take you away.  If you do it after the ceremony I think it will still be lots of fun!  Im sure since the guests are on vacation they will be letting loose and you will get better pictures with the light!

I am getting married at the HG House too (also in October!), and second-lining to Latrobe's afterwards. I shared your concerns about "loosening up" the crowd, and we resolved that by serving a signature cocktail immediately following the ceremony, that guests can take with them during the second line if they like (no open container laws to worry about in NOLA, woohoo!). Talk to Aimee at the HG House, she is super helpful in setting all that up. :)

Great, thank you all so much for your suggestions! I think we are going to set up an after party for the guests that want to continue and second line to there. And everyone will be staying in or very close to the FQ so those that have had enough can retreat home :)

mealiefresh- how much are you being charged to the the signature drink at HG house...that sounds like a great idea!
