Sparklers instead of bubbles!

Has anyone done this?  How did it go? Pros? Cons?  I liked the idea, then my fiance latched on and bought a case of sparklers without any consideration as to how we would make it work.  I like them, but I want to make sure we do this right :).  Any help is appreciated!

    Definitely check with your venue(s) first and foremost. Some do not allow fireworks and sparklers often fall under this. You don't want any unexpected fines or additional clean up fees. Ours is fine with them as long as they are used outside (you would think this is obvious, but apparently people once tried to do them inside...). 

    If it's all clear with your venue, how many guests are you having? How many sparklers are in the case? How long are they? The more guests, the more sparklers you need. Also the shorter they are, the more you need per guest because short ones burn up faster and you don't want pictures with half the guests' sparklers gone. 

    If you are wanting to do the photo op with them as you depart, which I assume you do, make sure you have someone like your reception manager or coordinator organize this for you and get everyone ready several minutes before hand.

    </div><div>All of this, especially the bold. The one wedding I went to with sparklers, there were just so many guests and it took so long to get the things lit that by the time the bride and groom came out, there were maybe half a dozen still burning.

    He bought 20 inch sparklers, and I am anticipating about 75 people at the wedding itself.  We have tons of groomsmen, so I figured we could have themhand out sparklers then start lighting.

    I like the idea of sparklers but I would cry if I had any burn marks on my dress from them.

    Definitely check with your venue.  As PPs have said, they are considered a fire hazard at most locations.  Ours had very strict guidelines, including the right to refuse to allow sparklers at any point if they felt guests were too drunk to handle them safely.

    We had sparklers on our exit from the reception.  We used shorter sparklers which burned out faster and in the pictures, I'd worry if any sparks caught our guests' hands.  If I could do it again, I'd use the longer ones!  You definitely need a coordinator to gather people around the exit, and have multiple sources of fire to light the sparklers (the more guests, the longer it takes).  Most importantly, have buckets of water nearby where they can be extinguished safely.

    You're super brave! There is no way I would want 75 people waving around sparklers around me (but that's probably because I set my dress on fire with one when I was 5). As everyone else has said, check with your venue. A lot of them don't even like confetti, so I imagine fireworks are probably an issue too. And I would just make sure you keep a close eye on your dress. It's probably poofier than a normal dress and you may not notice if it gets close to someone holding the sparkler. The last thing you want is to burn a big hole in your dress.

    If you end up doing sparklers, make sure that you tell ur guests to hold them up really high!  One of my best friends did this and she had a strapless dress, guests didnt hold them high enough so she ended up getting burned a bit.  So be careful!!  I love the idea though.Laughing
