Flowers to Mary

At our church we have a tradition of giving flowers to Mary during the wedding (just the bride and groom). I don't know if this is tradition in all churches or just ours, but what flowers would you suggest to give to her? the wedding is in December.

Re: Flowers to Mary

  • It's a tradition in most parishes, although not required. I'm sure whatever kind of flowers you want would be very nice. Perhaps roses or lilies.

  • I think I am doing roses. But whatever kind of flowers you want are fine.

  • Ditto others...whatever you want and find appropriate is fine. We gave a small version of the bouquets that were used in the wedding.

  • I'm also getting married in December and I thought I'd do red roses.  I think it's such a beautitful tradition.  The liturgist will play a Marian song while we do it.

  • We also had a small version of my wedding bouquet. We made the presentation after the Communion meditation, while our strings played the Guonod/Bach Ave Maria. It was amazing...for me, it was a way to pay tribute to both my Mothers in heaven (my mother passed away in 2001).

    I think it's a lovely tradition.

  • My mom was originally going to leave her nosegay (she wanted that instead of a wrist corsage since she saw it just getting banged around helping take care of my nieces) but she decided she asked me if we could just order something small to leave instead which is fine. My mom was the one who told me it was the tradition - hadn't heard it from the church at all.
