Color Crisis (Long)

Okay, get ready to get your thinking cap on because this gets a little complicated! :)

We are planning to have our wedding in late may. No invitations have been sent out yet, but we are more in the planning stage.

The theme is a rustic, country wedding. The ceremony is inside but the reception is outdoors.

Our invitations/rsvp cards/thank you notes/envelopes (basically all stationary products) are kraft which is a recycled paper and is like a light brown color. We are threading binder twine (which is used on hay bales) and I would like to, along with the binder twine, thread some colored ribbon through there. The only problem is I can't decide on what colors I like yet go with our other plans AND the season! haha

The one thing I have to make sure I get is the guys want camo vests. That works fine with the brown of the invitations. I would like to have tanish bridemaid dresses, and I found some super cute ones that aren't too simple but aren't crazy either!

My favorite flower is the tiger lily, which is a summer flower, but I feel like the brown and orange will look too fall like :/ I know the brown is a lighter brown, but I just don't want it to clash with the season!

Would it be too much to do the camo/tan with orange AND another color?! I thought about yellow to bring a little more late spring/early summer into it, but I just worry then we're getting too crazy! haha

What do you all think?

Re: Color Crisis (Long)

  • I agree with PP... adding in other colors would be too much. I think the camo (which already has tan in it) green and orange will be just fine! I think it would be cute! My FI would LOVE that!
  • I would also think about maybe a deep green or orange ribbon for your invitations, etc. Just to tie the actual color scheme in. They also have camo ribbon!

  • Ditto PP on the invites not needing to match....but may I suggest for the sake of your sanity you redefine your definition of crisis? Otherwise you're gonna make yourself crazy during the planning....

  • I think it would be nice just the tan and yellow or just the tan and orange. Either way, but not all three.

  • I'm going to throw out something completely differnet here.  Why not do the Brown, Camo and a color no one would expect to go with a camo wedding?  Pink, Purple, Aqua Blue, etc.  Your main colors would be the brown and camo but use something totally off the wall and unexpected for your accent color.  It will also help it look more like spring.  And almost any color would go if you find the right shade.  Camo and Orange is very overdone in my opinion but then I am from family that hunts so I see those colors in clothes, etc ALL THE TIME.  Good Luck! :) Your wedding sounds wonderful and very laid back!
