Flowers

HI, my wedding is just over a year away and I am trying to get some insight on costs and places to look for flowers. I've considered the wholesale/farmers market route and DIYing them, but maybe it makes more sense to shell out a little more money to have someone actually do them for me.

If you are using a vendor: What vendor are you using? What do you like about them? What are their prices like?

If you are DIYing yours: Where are you getting your flowers? When do you plan on doing them?

TIA!

I'm using a florist called Intuitive Blooms. The prices are amazing, and the owner, Lacey, is incredibly talented and fun to work with. I'm getting a buttload of flowers for about $850... and didn't really have to skimp on anything or substitute with less expensive flowers. She's also letting me semi-DIY some of my centerpieces, using flowers that she'll purchase for me... which is saving me quite a bit of $$$.

:)  Flowers were expensive...but so worth it.  We used Richfield Floral and paid around $5,000.  We had to "cut things out" because the prices was getting even higher....but the day of I couldn’t tell, I thought they looked better then I remembered.  I am sure we paid a more just because the company has "brand name" appeal, but they did a great job and they had lots of other stuff to rent so it was easy to work with them.  Also, I had alot of flowers and we used a bunch of orchids. I had two vases that bigger then the first picture and 15 this style, I had 15 of the "floating" flowers, little floating flowers in the bathrooms, cocktail tables......

We are doing sort of a mix of DIY and wholesaler. My mom just started her own business so she gets wholesale prices on the flowers and she isn't charging much (if anything) for labor until she gets several weddings under her belt. She is really really good at this and has been doing it for a while, but she just became official by getting her tax ID #. I can give you her information if you are interested. Keep in mind that pricing on flowers totally depends on what flowers you pick and if they are "in-season" or not.

We are going with Alissa from I Do Flowers and so far she is great! We went over everything we needed (brides boquet, bridesmaid bouquets, boutiners, other corsages and boutiners, alter arrangements, and centerpieces for about 30 tables) and I told her exactly what I wanted and then gave her my budget at the end- she came back with a few suggestions to keep the costs down and we will be getting everything for under $1400- we had a lot of orchids and other expensive flowers too. She is great and was refferred to me by several people- so far she has been so nice and is very flexbile! I think she would be able to find a way to give you what you want with any budget.

I am using pearson floral in shakopee.  My floral eye is not good I can't even manage to keep a plant alive so I had o do a florist.  My bouquet has stargazer ilies, hydrangeas, and orchids, my bm have white lilies only, all my boutineers were orchids and hydrangea and my misc people were a combo.   I didn't use floral centerpieces so that helped alot and my total for all these was only 600.  we are getting married in nov when practically all flowers are "out of season" here and I thought it was reasonable plus the woman ellie who helped us was amazing and super attentive to my situation and wants.  Hope it helps!

I DIY'ed my flowers.  I bought my flowers (dahlias) at the St Paul Farmers Market the day before the wedding, and made 14 bouquets (1 bride, 6 bridesmaid, 2 junior bridesmaid, 2 mothers, 2 grandmothers, 1 toss) with help from my mom and 2 bridesmaids.  Flowers and supplies cost $100 total.

This was the perfect option for me, because flowers weren't too high on my "important" list and I didn't want anything too complicated. But if you want a bouquet with a lot of different flowers or a ton of ceneterpieces I would recommend going through a florist.

Here are a couple pics of how mine turned out.  Doing them myself was totally worth it for me!

I'm using Colleen's Flower Cellar.  She sat down with us and wrote up a proposal, then went through it andshowed us where we could cut down on costs.  I'm paying about $550.  We are not doing much for flowers on the altar or at the reception site.   She is very reasonably priced and will do as much or as little as you want her to.

We are DIYing... growing em all ourselves, too. might have to supplement with a few farmers market bouquests, but we have 100s and 100s of flowers. I have two women in charge of doing centerpieces and bouquets the day before. It saved us a lot of money, but I didn't realize how much work it was going to be to maintain the garden all summer. That was time I was not accounting for when the idea of doing our own came to me... But!, Just one more week! I hope they all stay bright and bountiful!

    GAH. $5k on flowers?

We're spending about $550 and are getting:
my bouquet (about 20 calla lilies)
    10 bouts
    3 BM bouquets
    5 corsages
    20 centerpieces

We're mostly using huge gerbera daisies, so they are a little cheaper.  But this is still about half the other quotes I got.

We're using Molly from Petals and Sprigs and Twigs. http://petalsandsprigsandtwigs.com/

We are using Jeni from Simply Stated Elegance and our budget was $500.  I like that she uses a wholesaler and that she meets you there so you can see how all the flowers will look together.

One of the most important things you need to remember when looking at flowers, is that your cost can be wildly different, based on which flowers you use.  For example, my bridesmaid's bouquets are actually more expensive than my bridal bouquet because of the flowers (mine is roses, their's are calla lilies).

Your florist should be able to give you ideas and suggestions for less expensive flowers that can give you the look you're wanting - just make sure to ask!

Ditto on Alissa...  I just love her!  She's doing EVERYTHING for us and we were able to keep it under $1000 because of her many suggestions and slight changes that would keep the cost down.  Yay!
