Doolan's Shore Club - Spring Lake?

Good morning,
I've been lurking around here for some time trying to get some ideas.  I've been engaged about 2 months and am finally starting to look at venues.  I was wondering if anyone has either had their reception at Doolan's in Spring Lake or been to a wedding there?

    I toured Doolans and hated it. It was gross and dirty with bugs everywhere. This was pre-renovation, however that place needs way more than a coat of paint to be good. I've had friends who have been there for weddings and they said the food was less than stellar.

    Our reception is at the Crystal Point Yacht Club, I highly recommend them. They are more affordable than you might think.

    I don't have any first hand experience there but I do know everything ever said about Doolan's on this board is negative.  People say it's gross.

    I actually booked at Doolans's. I have gone there on 4 different occasions and have not been disappointed by what I have seen. People on these boards seem to like to rip this place apart for some reason. I did not see bugs or think the place was gross. However to each her own I guess. If anything, go take a look at it yourself and form your own thoughts on it.

    I found this place to have a simple look to it, which I personally like. I don't like that tacky look that some reception facilities had. They offer a lot for the price and have a great location.

    I have never been there.
     But I have been to a wedding at the English Manor which was nice and in that area.

    I toured it when I was looking for a venue and I thought it was ok.  I didn't see anything gross or any bugs.  I didn't particularly love the outside and the rooms could use a little updating but it was ok.  I ended up going with the Versailles Ballroom at the Ramada in Toms River, but if you really want to stay in the Spring Lake area I went to 2 weddings at The Mill which were both pretty good.

    Thanks for all your responses.  I've been to there for a non-wedding event but that was quite a few years ago.

    Wasn't it recently remodeled last summer? If that's the case it could be why there's such a difference of opinions. I'm attending a wedding there at the end of the year and thanks to these boards I'm extremely intrigued as to what I might find.

    DH & I stayed at the hotel this summer.  The hotel rooms are old but clean.  Two weddings went on while we were there.  We peaked into the ball room.  It seemed fine to us.  We ate the complimentary hot breakfast & the food was fine.  I had reason to go into the kitchen which was also clean & being cleaned while we were there. 

    The venue is not new by any stretch but it looks nice & they did a good job on the renovation. 

    I'd at least check it out.  You don't have anything to lose. 

    If you are in the neighborhood, I'd also look at Clark's Landing.  That rennovation was phenomenal.
