Are you doing uplighting at your reception and how much are you paying for it?

Hi ladies,
I'm debating if i should do uplighting at my reception... i love how it looks in pictures and how it brings out the room...but i've contacted two DJ companies (one of them is our actual hired DJ) and our venue (Drexelbrook). The cheapest uplighting quote was $750!! That's just ridiculous... our reception is only 4-5 hours long... did you/ are you doing uplighting at your wedding and can you recommened a cheaper lighting professional? Thank you!

  • I want to do uplighting too, I agree with you I love how it looks. I haven't compared pricing yet, though.

  • My DJ only charges $150 for uplighting.  Too bad my venue won't let me bring outside lighting =(
  • Our DJ is charging $20 per light. We are doing 8 lights, 2 per wall for a total of $160.
  • Ysl1983 and Krazykramer: would you mind giving me your Dj's contact? yours is so much cheaper than mine! Thank you!

  • ours is moejam@aol.com.  I'm not sure if they rent out the uplighting separately but it would be worth asking
  • We are paying $750 for 24 LED uplights and 1 monogram light. That is a HEAVILY discounted rate though, since we booked with the same company our DJ is from and we bargained with them.

  • We are using Celebration Sound.

He is charging us $700 plus the $160 for the uplighting.  He has been voted best DJ in Philadelphia.  My parents were at a wedding where he was working.  They said everyone was dancing and they loved the fact that the music wasn't blaring to the point where you couldn't talk to other guests.
  • my venue charges 500 for the most basic package of uplighting
(around and it goes up from there. i wonder if they'd allow an outside company...probably not.
  • Sorry, I just checked my contract and it is $25 per light.
  • We have a lighting package through Synergetic. They aren't our DJ though (we have a band). We're not doing uplighting per se but we're doing a dancefloor wash, some lighting for the band, and some lighting outside with G40 lights and some additional structures they have to build with poles. They're charging us $1500. I think we're getting totally ripped off.

  • I'm getting married at drexelbrook and I'm using their lighting I think it was 800 but they now add it to your final total

<div>This is a BIG reason why I didn't choose Synergetic. While I've heard nothing but good things about them, I felt that their prices (especially for lighting) were a little ridiculous.</div>
