August 2012 Weddings

My fitting went horrible..

I had my first fitting on Tuesday and it was a disaster. I felt a little dumpy becuase I've had some personal medical conditions effecting my lifestyle lately. On top of that, it's been 90+ degrees with mostly humidity around here lately, so I was extremely puffy from being so hot. My E ring can barely even come off of my finger I'm so bloated. I'm retaining a ton of water, and I just look like a puffer fish.

I put my dress on, and the seamstress could barely snap the back of the dress. I started to panic right away. She got everything snapped in, then I looked at myself and I hated it. My back is buldging out everywhere with fat, and I just looked horrible. The dress is so tight and I can barely even move it's so uncomfortable. I don't know how I would even be able to sit for dinner.

Here is my dress (click) and as you can see, the back has openings that snap in the middle. You can imagine how horrible it looks with a ton of back fat popping out in those openings. I just don't even know how to act about it.

I started going to the gym the next morning and I've been going every day, since. But with only two weeks until my final fitting, I really don't know how far I can improve.

Re: My fitting went horrible..

  • If it is just water retention.  cut out salt and drink a ton of water.  That alone can drop weight quick if it is just water weight.

What did the seamstress say.  Can she let it out some so that the back fat isn't as noticable.

I love your dress it is beautiful

First of all, your dres is BEAUTIFUL!

Second, I TOTALLY get what you are saying cause when my dress came in I had about half an inch showing and my dress has a corset back. Imagine my embarassment on that one. The only good thing was that I had some time to fix mine so when I went for my first fitting eveything was fine.

I agree with PP, check with the seamstress, they are amazing people that do amazing things! Limit processed foods and salt and drink lots of water to flush your system.

You will look beautiful on your wedding day, I would bet you 1 million bucks! :)

  • Drink water like its your job, do you do hot yoga? It really does help with bloating. Just eat healthy, get some sleep and drink lots of water! Don't do anything extreme.

I promise that you will look beautiful and everyone will notice that on your wedding day!

  •  Don't get discouraged though I'm sure your seamstress will be able to fix the dress.   2 weeks isn't a lot of time to make a difference and exercise alone isn't going to do it.  A combination of the right diet and exercise.  Agree with PP about drinking a lot of water, reducing sodium and sugar intake.

  • You've got 2 weeks, so make it count! Drink lots of water, limit salt & carbonated beverages (they cause bloat), and eat lean protein (chicken, fish, egg whites).  Do at least an hour of sweaty cardio at the gym every day to get rid of the excess water. Good luck!

  • On the plus side, the dress snaps shut, so it's not a lost cause!  You said you have a final fitting in 2 weeks which means it's in the seamstresses hands until then, so I'm sure if she is able to take it out any, she will!

As for the bulging, unfortunately, even the slimmest of brides will have some if they opt for a strapless dress since the dress needs to be quite snug to stay up!  This will cause skin bulges on EVERYONE and you just have to go with it.  You are your worst critic and others will be taking in your beauty that day, not picking out your flaws - keep that in mind!

I agree with the others in watching your foods (not such much to lose lbs, but to avoid water retention.  Do research if you're unsure what causes this).  AND, cardio will never hurt, so kudos for going to the gym - keep it up and you'll feel better mentally which will create a world of difference!

  • That's an amazing dress!

Come join the getting in shape board - the ladies have lots of ideas for healthy foods and snacks.  Also, you need to remember a few tricks that will make all of the difference, along with the gym-
    1. stress also causes bloating/water retention. take a deep breath, and maybe try some light yoga
    2. drink water to lose water.  the more water you drink, the more stored water your body will flush.
    3. weight loss is 70% (some say 80%) about what you're eating.  load up on lean proteins and antioxidants.  blueberries, cucumbers, and almonds are great snacks to help you shed quickly.  salmon also helps me drop some of the stored weight really quickly.

keep your head up - you're going to look great no matter what!

  • Your dress is geogeous, and you look beautiful in it! Everyone who wears a strapless dress has some back fat. I agree with PP about your seamstress letting it out, and your doing cardio. Also, you are your worst critic, aren't we all?!? : Good luck!
  • I have problems with bloating around that time of the month; so much so that my dress didnt fit when I put it on for the first time.  Drink lots (I mean LOTS!!!) of water, cut out salt/sodium from your diet; I also found that drinking Chamomile Tea 2x a day helps, you can also take Chamomile supplements (i think u can get 'em at GNC).  They also have pills that you can take to reduce bloat/water weight.  Good Luck!
  • Have you considered doing a clease?  I sometimes do the Jay Robb 3 day fruit cleanse and it works to reduce water weight....and it's not hard to do.  It's just fruit, veggies, and lean protien.  Google it.
  • Bloating does make a difference. I tried on my dress a week ago and freaked out because it was a bit too tight. I took it to the seamstress and have her take it out a bit. I went to my first fitting yesterday and now it's too loose. It could be that I'm less bloated. I recommed having the seamstress let out the dress a little so if it[s really bloating, you'll feel more comfortable on the wedding day.

    By the way, beautiful dress!
