Mystery invite

WTF. Summer of the weddings continues.

I just got an invite to a bridal shower and I have 0 idea who the bride is. It's being thrown for "Lauren", no last name. I don't recognize the host's name. Host lives in Nevada but the shower is in MI. There is no info about registries so I can't figure it out that way.

I've asked my H and he has no idea. I checked with my sister to make sure it wasn't someone on my family's side and came up with nothing.  It was addressed to my married name so they must know I just got married. I'm so confused.

Re: Mystery invite

  • Odd, did you have any Lauren's on your guest list?

  • Can you call the host and get more information? I don't know if the info is on there to RSVP.

    2. 1 was my good friend and isn't even dating let alone getting married. 1 is H's friend's wife so she's already married.

  • Haha I don't think so. Like I said, my new name and address. I have a feeling it might be like what Rachers said and maybe it's like a patient of my ILs (dentists)? The fact that the shower is in MI leads me to believe there is some connection since that's where both our families are from.

If I don't figure it out in a few days I'll call the host. That will be a fun convo: "Oh hey, so who is Lauren?"

    Agreed.

Maybe it's someone where you know the groom better than you know the bride?  Or even where the groom is someone that your H knows?  I know some people who literally take every female off the guest list and invite them to the shower, even if the bride doesn't know them.
Yea, I'd place my bets on that. At the bridal shower I had (in H's hometown) I overheard several people asking my (then) FMIL "So which one is the bride?" Talk about awkward.
    Posted by rachers1017
That's really awkward. I felt weird at the one my MIL threw me because I didn't know all her friends names. I think they knew who I was at least.

Maybe I will be calling today after all. The RSVP date is July 2nd and we'll still be on our HM.

Ding ding! I think I may have connected the dots.

Put the host's last name with the bride's first on facebook and found someone who I think is dating one of H's 2nd or 3rd cousins. Dating is the key here though. I don't think they are engaged and according to FB (because FB is always the truth) they are "in a relationship". Hmm.

  • Okay so I've figured out who the bride and groom are and finally found a registry...they aren't getting married until next summer. Over a year away. Anyone heard of having a shower that far out?

Maybe the date on the registry is wrong?  (assuming that is where you saw it)

  • OOhhhh yeah, a year out is way too far.  I mean it's one thing if it was an engagement party, but my MOH wants to wait till next year to plan mine.

I talked to SIL and she says they were originally supposed to get married earlier so that's why it's this early?
    I dunno, it's weird, whatever.

  • I've never heard of that. Most people wait to see if they will stick it out. Overachievers...

  • Totally did that with my invites. Sil sent me a spreadsheet with names/addresses. 2 weeks after the rsvp date I hadn't heard from 3 of her guests. I asked her to contact them and she had no clue who I was talking about. She had used a coworker's Christmas address template and forgot to scroll to the right. Woops.
Can you call the host and ask for the registry info? It might be a good way to fish for the bride and/or groom's full name. How bizarre though.
    Posted by kodakitty
I know this is settled but how did you imagine this going?

"Hey, I was just calling to get some info about Lauren's registry"
"Oh, she's registered at XYZ!  Are you planning to come to the shower?"

Also, why not just decline without worrying about it?  You're obviously very close to these people.

Haha yeah I'm declining. It's a long drive since we live in Cinci and need to make it up there almost every weekend anyway for a bunch of weddings.  I'll probably send a gift.

Well if they didn't put a last name, I bet the hostess is getting a few of those calls.
