Which is cheaper?

Hey y'all! So I've got a question. My wedding is in May, I need to decide on save the dates ASAP to get them sent out. We are already at the top of the budget without things like the dress, flowers, dj, limo. Have y'all found that it is cheaper to make save the dates and/or invitations or order them? I don't know what to do! I almost think too that it would be cute to make save-the-dates and order invitations because of the ones I've seen (and believe me, I have not seen many) the classic ordered invitations look a little more classy than some that have been homemade. What do y'all think??? Help! I need to send out like 250 invitations so it's going to get pricey! Any advice you have would be great!

My cousin did electronic Save the Dates.. which costs nothing.  She had a nice picture of her (then fiance) and pertinent info that followed.  You can find STD postcards though from Vistaprint. maybe $20 total..

Are we talking May 2011? If that's the case, I'd say STDs are kind of unnecesary. Maybe do the electronic ones if you feel you have to, but if you're talking May 2011, you'll be sending invites out in a few months anyways.

My post is useless if this is a DW though. :) Or if it's May 2012. In which case I will completely rewrite this. :)

Also: When you do your invites, I voted handmade but what I really meant was: vistaprint, 123print.com, etsy.... those are places you can find really nice/cute invites for a lot less than the "fancy" invites.

I tend to agree with Amelia above.  If your wedding is in May 2011 and you feel you need to do a STD, then do an electronic one.  Or, send STD's in the mail to only family, then do an electronic one for friends.  That will save you some $ on printing and postage.  You could also just spread the word about your wedding website (if you have one) via email, which would obviously have your date on it, and would also cost you nothing.

For invitations, definitely do them yourself or order them from Vistaprint, magnetstreet, paper divas, etc.  They will be cheaper than ordering them from a card shop like Papyrus.  Good luck and happy planning!!

I think STD's are always un-needed, so I would agree with the ladies above if you want to send something out. GL!

I wonder if Prince William and Kate are registered at Target?

I think STDs are a public health hazard, but that's just me.  Perhaps you meant "Save the Date" cards? ;)
