Dallas Knottie visiting DC - need help please

Hi Ladies,

My DH and I got engaged last Valentine's Day weekend and will be in the DC area for that weekend this year, and I was wondering if you all would be able to give me some first hand exeperience/suggestions for a romantic restaurant that we go to while we are there to celebrate Valentine's Day and the anniversary of us getting engaged.

Thanks in advance.

Sure!  What type of food do you like?  Are you looking for a more modern place or traditional?

Either would be good, and we love all kinds of food. I am open to any suggestions. Thanks.

    I would suggest:

-Policy DC in Adam's Morgan- AM is a very eclectic neighborhood but has some of my favorite restaurants.  Policy is very modern and has amazing small plates.

If you wanted to make a night out of staying in AM check out The Gibson before dinner.  It is a well kept secret.

-Dirty Martini I think that is in DuPont I can't remember but is great as well.

-1905 is by the U-street Corridor and it a super cozy French restaurant.

Those would be my top choices!  Good luck and enjoy!!

It depends on your budget, but one of the top restaurants in DC is Citronelle. I would also recommend Blue Duck Tavern. Both have great, romantic atmospheres and incredibly amazing food. My FI is a Chef and a total snob, and those are two of his favorite restaurants. He also recommends Obelisk, which I've never been to.

If you want a gorgeous waterfront view, The Sequoiah is another of my favorites, and the food is very good although not up to the level of Citronelle =)

make sure you make your reservations ASAP. Valentine's Day around here tends to fill up a month or two in advance.

Jaleo is fun, tasty, and traditional DC!

For more ideas, post a *detailed* question for tom sietsema during his online hour every thursday.  He's the Washington Post's food critic.  I would include price range, type of food and ambiance.

My take on the recs so far - all good and offbeat except Maggianos which is a perfectly fine Italian family style chain.  Seqoia is a bubbly, noisy young crowd - so it's a hopping vibe.

    Yes BOOK NOW!

PS Jaleo has great food - wide variety of Tapas and is also a buzzing crowd.

Thanks ladies! We will definitely look into all those ideas.

We have Maggianos in Dallas so we were looking for something different but thanks!

BTW, how / where would I contact Tom Sietsema?

You'd need a car, but I had my wedding at 2941 Restaurant in Falls Church, VA. It's gorgeous with waterfalls and Koi ponds. http://www.2941.com
