Candle OR Sandy Ceremony?

We are having an outside ceremony. I was thinking of doing a sand ceremony instead of a candle. I was thinking the flame wouldn't stay lit. Is anyone else doing this OR have suggestion on how to keep the flame lit?

  • I know this isn't exactly what you are asking here, but we are doing a tree unity ceremony. You can look up the details online if you are interested, but each family brings soil from their yard, and then you can plant the tree to show your growing love. There are also other ideas like time capsules with love letters as well as the sand or candle ceremony.

  • We're also having an outdoor ceremony. We were pretty set on the sand ceremony and when we met with our officiant, he confirmed that the sand was a safer bet than the candle. He said he's seen a number of ceremonies where the candles keep going out. I also like the idea of keeping our sand piece on display in our home. I have a number of candles out, so the candle wouldn't stand out as much in our home as the sand would.

  • I'm doing a love letter ceremony with a box that I already have and it's beautiful.
It doesn't have to be perfect to be everything I want!

  • I'm not doing either. We do have a ceremony outside and wanted a unity ceremony, but sand doesn't have lots of meaning where we are getting married (Niagara Falls). We came up with a rock ceremony. Basically our BP and parents will each place a rock in a vase, then FI and I place one each in the vase.

This was another reason we wanted to go with a sand ceremony instead, but I like the idea I seen on here with love letter and time capsule? I'll have to check these out as well!
