Re: FFF

  • I saw that this morning. How disturbing and to think that could have happened here. My daughter went to the midnight show of Dark Night here in Plano. It freaks me out and than my brother and sister in law are good friends to the parents of the missing girls in Evansdale iowa and still no word on that. It's like they vanished out of thin air. Another friend from high school, her 16 year old daughter was badly beaten Tuesday morning. What is our worl coming too???
I just want to lock my kids up in the house.

  • I said this on TN, and I'll say it again, what were people doing with their tiny KIDS (a 3-month-old?  Really?) at a midnight screening?

The whole thing is just insane.

I also flame this douche who's being interviewed by NBC.  He wasn't even in the theatre, he just sounds like he's looking for his 15 minutes.

  • I found that strange to to have little kids there. There is no reason for a 6 year old or babies to be at a midnight screening.

I was thinking this too.  Not that it is their fault in any way.....it is still tragic, but I would think this movie would scare a six year old.  My little guy is terrified of Cruella De Vil on 101 Dalmations, for eff's sake.  Although, since all three month olds do is sleep, I suppose if they have something to cover their ears....

  • Amy - I'm exactly like you. I get very emotional with tragic situations. I couldn't imagine being at that theater and going through that I def don't agree with kids being at the movies that late but aren't both the children okay?
  • The two I heard about had been shot, but didn't die.

  • This was such a tragic event.. my heart goes out to everyone that was there. How do you live with those images the rest of your llife? I also feel TERRBILE that after reading the story this morning one of the first things I thought was "who takes there 3 and 6 year old to the midnight showing of the Dark Knight" and I judged them! How terrible that my first thought was to judge their parenting???

  • I'm glad they are okay and I pray both babies fully recover. So sad for all those hurt and killed.
  • I would never take my three month old to the movies (especially not at midnight!), but I know of parents who did.  Some of the theaters even have mommy's day out movies for moms to bring their newbie babies.  I never did it, but I think moms put the baby on the floor in an infant seat or something so they don't see the movie.....I could never get into that, because even if they don't see the screen, it is too loud.

But yeah it is terribly, terribly sad.

  • I woke up about 10 minutes ago and just got on fb to help wake up when I kept seeing people talking about it. One of my friends it was in his town and he's just so distraught. Ugh I'm so tired, I dont' want to work, or do the enormous amount of laundry I have to do tonight.

  • I knew someone who took their 6 week old baby to the theater. Sorry, I know this may alienate me but I just truly don't believe in bringing kids to theaters. On another note, we went to a 11pm showing of Ted recently and someone brought their 6-8 year old kid. Sorry- NOT APPROPRIATE! I know you can't shield your kid from everything, but have some discretion please!

<div>You are certainly not alienated in my mind.  I mean, I feel like once you have a kid, you have to accept that your life is different and you can't do everything the same way your childless friends do.  I feel like it's not unreasonable to go to a movie after 10 pm and NOT expect to see kids there!  Even if it's a kid-friendly movie!  Put those babies to bed!</div><div>
</div><div>Of course, I guess there are exceptions.  We talked about it on TN -- if the kid is like three days old, probably not a big deal.  If it's a midnight showing of Brave and it's summer, probably also not a big deal, except I hear sleeping kids are heavier than a bag of bricks.</div>

I am 100% with you on this. Unless it is an age appropriate movie, get a babysitter. Children under 2 shouldn't be there at all, IMO.

Even then for sound purposes? The sound at movies hurt even my ears sometimes. I also feel the same way about this for tiny<em> </em>kids at wedding <strong><em>receptions</em></strong>. Sometimes the music is so loud (even for me), I couldn't imagine how it affects wee ones who are on the dancefloor next to speakers or wee ones seated close to the dancefloor.
(Noted: I am not a pediatrician nor parent so if my assumptions are medically misinformed, I apologize for my ignorance. I am only going on what seems like common sense to me). <div>
</div><div>ETA: I too am terribly saddened (realized I completely went on a heartless rant in my first post). Kidd Kraddick was talking about it on the radio this morning and I had to swtich to pandora just to keep my composure. I couldn't even imagine- utterly unfathomable. </div>
  • Oh, yeah, I don't care how old my kid is, I'm not planning on taking him to a Dark Knight movie, but some of the more family friendly movies MIGHT be appropriate for a baby that's just going to sleep through it (and I'm talking like REALLY young).

I also don't think I would have the energy to attend a midnight showing if I had a baby.  Or a kid of any age.

  • I know that my sister and her husband took their first born to the movie ALL the time when she was a newborn. the did just strap her in her carseat and rock her on thh floor. That kid can sleep through anything.. but these were not midnight showings, and not ridiculously loud, violent movies. Cause you are all right, the sound alone is enough to startle adults, let alone a sleeping baby. Sure , take your baby to a 6pm showing of something like "what to Expect when your Expecting" or someother rom com.. but something like batman. not the same at all!!!!

(and of course if your baby cannot sleep through the entire movie and like eto cry and a lot.. leave them at home!)
  • As a parent I never took my kids to any movie theaters. For one I would be afraid either they would start crying and that would be annoying for other people trying to watch the movie and there is no way in hell especially after 8:00 pm. I had my kids on a schedule and by 8:00 they were in bed. So agree no babies in the theater.

  • I'm sorry to get off the topic of the movies but I have to flame this asshole who just came to my work. I don't even check people into the hotel, I'm a concierge, the guy goes past the two people who are agents and comes to me to check in. I tell him his room type and tell him I can upgrade him and he's like oh I am a Platinum member I get a suite. I tell him I'm not sure I have any available but I'll check. He cuts me off and is like oh I saw them online, you have them and I am entitled to a complimentary upgrade, which is not the case. So one of the people who actually work at the front desk checks and gets him in a suite and he tries to be fake nice at the end, shaking my hand all sarcastically. I stared at him like who the F*** do you think you are talking to me like that! Now I'm rattled. I hate when people are like that.
