The Dress

So I have narrowed my dress search down to two dresses, they're actually really similar one has a top and shoulder strap that I am completely in love with, one has the bottom I am completely in love with but either way they're very very similar. Anyway, I am going to try them both on for a second time this weekend and make a purchase because at this point I won't be getting it back till June...

I was just wondering if anyone else has found their dress and bought it and how the whole process went? I am really nervous. I just keep thinking, what if I find "the dress" and it turns out I wish I would have chose the other one, buying one is just so final. I am so ready to get this step out of the way I am just having a mild heart attack about it.

Either way, I can't wait to get married, 171 days isn't long but it is going so sloowww!!!

I went to 1 shop - Nordstrom's tried on about 5 dresses.   I think the third one I tried one was "the one.'  I ordered it in January it arrived in February.   I brought 2 friends with me and my mother and sister were received text photos of the dresses and providing feedback.  Having multiple points of input are important but I also just knew that it was the right dress for me.

  • I went to one shop.  I ordered my dress in early November and it won't be here til June.  I tried it on again at another store (when I bought it, it was trunk show so not in stores) and there weren't any other dresses I liked more as I walked by them all, so I'm content.

When you find FI, you stop looking right?  So when you pick your dress, there will still be other dresses, but you found one that goes beautifully with you so you can rest easy knowing you made a good choice.

I had no idea what I wanted in a dress. The only thing I knew was that I did not want anything poofy or like a ball gown. I went to David's Bridal first. I must have tried on about 10 different dresses that night, and I found tons of things I didn't like in a dress.

The second time I went out searching I went to a small local place around here that carries some various brands. Again, I tried on a bunch of different kinds of dresses but I think it was the 2nd or 3rd one I tried that stuck with me. I didn't buy it then, but I got the info saved.

After that, I finally did my research on dresses in the David's Bridal collection. I had a list of about 15 dresses to try. I went in with my BMs/MOH and my FMIL. Every dress I tried on that day I compared to the other one back in the local shop. Then I found one that I really liked and I was completely torn between the two because they both looked really great on me, but they were completely different styles. I asked for a bunch of different opinions from anybody that would listen to me, haha! Finally, when I asked my mom and grandmother, they started to go with the dress at David's Bridal, and I instantly got that gut reaction of being sad that they didn't choose the other one.

Two days later I bought the one in the local shop. That was the last week of January, and they told me it would take about 3-4 months to come in. I am anxiously awaiting for their call. I have pictures of me in the most of the dresses I tried on during those other visits. I've looked through them a few times since, and I'm still happy with my decision. I think I'll be even happier once the thing actually comes in!

Because subconsiously, you've alreday made up your mind. If a friend says go with dress 2 but in your mind you wanted dress 1, that's how you'll make a decision you won't regret. GL!

THIS!!!! I had picked two dresses from alfred angelo, they had similarities, and one of my bm's flipped a coin and I was so nervous, and it landed on the dress that i chose, which was the one i really wanted!! :)

  • i narrowed it down to 2 dresses (at 2 different shops - what a pain that was haha).  i took a day and went back and forth between the shops and spent about 10-15 min in each dress.  Dress 1 looked a smidge better on me (casablanca 1832 - the back was SO PRETTY), but Dress 2 was more 'me' (mori lee 2302). mom liked dress 1 better so the decision was even harder --- but in the end i picked the one i felt like ME in

i had a bit of regret until my dress came in and i put it on. there are things i'm not completely sold on (i wanted a sweetheart neck), but i LOVE my dress.  i still think the other dress is pretty, and that i'd look good in it if i chose it, but this one is MINE. =p

i have looked at other dresses simply to see what fashions are out now... and i hate all of it. haha so i guess i'm not to worried with running into something i love better after the fact.

i guess my advice would be to spend some time in your choices. move around/dance/sit/etc in them (i didnt actually sit and dance in my dress until i had it at home - whoops!)  take a few pics if you can, and just decide which one feels more like 'you'.  i'm sure you look great in both - so there can't really be a wrong choice!
  • I haven't gotten my dress because I wasn't planning on spending that kind of money on it. I went to the bridal salon and told them my budget and the style I was looking for. As I looked through the dresses that possessed the qualities I THOUGHT I wanted, my peripheral vision went to a dress on a mannequin that just CALLED me.  It wasn't lace, it wasn't Ivory, it didn't have ANY of the qualities nor the price tag I was looking for. I had chosen about 15 dresses that fit the description I had envisioned, and couldn't contain myself with trying this very different dress on. The dresses all looked good, and I felt pretty-but something kept telling me to try this dress on (other than the sales woman-lol). I also know how I am, and if I hadn't tried it on I wouldn't have been able sleep for who knows how long. This all happened last November- and luckily my dad offered to pay for it as a gift. This Saturday is my appointment to purchase it. When you put the dress on- you just know it. Good luck to you!

  • I thought I wanted a mermaid dress for the longest time... then I started trying on dresses and the only ones I keep falling in love with over and over and over again with are ball gowns. Anyway, I am torn between an alfred angelo dress and a David's Bridal dress so I will make the decision this Saturday!! I already told Jeremy to be prepared to buy a dress this weekend!!
