Help me find a bridal coverup/jacket, please :(

I'm really starting  to figure out what I want for a cover up and why, so I've narrowed down my "style".  I kinda fell in love with this coverup:

I love it because it's lacey and it goes across my chest and covers my upper arms as well for church.
I don't love it because it's over $400!!!!!!!!!!  And I've contacted 16 different stores across the US to see if anyone has it in stock, and no one yet does.  And it seems back ordered until November for those shops that can order it, so even if I was able to wheel and deal with them, it seems a no go.

SO I need alternatives!  Can you help me find something similar?  The only other coverup that is lacey, crosses the chest, and covers the upper arms I've found is this one:

I love the front.  But I'm not sure about this big trailing tulle bit in the back (see below).  My dress has such a lovely back with covered buttons all the way down.  I would be covering that up for the ceremony if I wore this jacket.  Also, would it look weird with my veil?  My veil is waltz length.  hmmmm  Also, the train causes an "empire back" (I dont' know what else to call it) which reminds me too much of the edwardian era.  Do you know what I mean?  That's not my style.  If it didn't have that train, it would be perfect.  Or would it?  I'm so confused! XD

And, this one is less than half the price of the first one at $180.

Here is my dress, my shoes, and my jewelry.  My dress has no lace on it, so I want my shoes, jewelry and my coverup to be lacey.

Which do you like better, 1 or 2?  Can you help me find more lacey cover ups that cross the chest and cover the arms?

  • i like the one with the tulle. hmm the diyer in me is looking going get lace wrap around shoulders add buttons under arms be done spend a lot less. or even buy a wrap and add buttons or hooks and eyes. the coverups your showing aren't even as structured as shrugs so they wouldn't be too hard to do.
this is knitting pattern but it explains were buttons would go

How about contacting an etsy seller to recreate something similar or creating an etsy alchemy (custom) request?

  • I actually found the exact same things as pueo! Great minds think alike. :)
If you have confidence in your seamstress abilities, I would go that route. I know I definitely would because the ones you have found and the ones on etsy are so expensive. I've also got a teensy budget so that's my perspective.
You could also buy the less expensive one and remove the train. It might be a pretty touch for just the ceremony, though.

I've decided to make it.  I'm going to make one similar to the first one. I know I can do it.  I'm pretty savvy with a sewing machine, so I'm going to do it.

    Here's the lace I've chosen:
    (bodice)

    (sleeves)

The floral pattern makes these lovely half circles that dip down.  That dippy-down part is going to go in the centre of my sweetheart neckline.  You can see the lace almost mimics the sweetherat neckline shape.  It's lovely!

I'll probably do some simple covered buttons in the back.  I can't wait to get started!
