Bridal appt at DB

So I made an appointment at Davids Bridal...my wedding is in less than nine months and it will be my first time trying on dresses. I am a plus size bride and I am really nervous about trying on dresses and not finding any that I believe to be flattering. Has anyone else had good experiences with DB? The girl on the phone seemed VERY nice and said they would have plenty in my size but I am still worried and its almost making me dread trying on dresses :(

Re: Bridal appt at DB

  • I went to alfred angelo on sawmill and had an amazing time, I too am a plus size bride and I gained about 20 pounds in the last year so I am not very comfortable in my body right now, and they had dresses that fit all sizes and the dresses really flatter! I know that davids bridal has dresses too that can go into every size so you should be ok, just breathe and have fun!!! The 6 dresses i tried on all 6 looked really good on me so I am quite sure you will find something :)
  • Thanks! I am a budget bride as well....how budget friendly is Alfred Angelo?
  • Alfred Angelo is just a slight step above DB as far as price, but they have some really great stuff!  they don't have $99 sales like DB, but they do have an entire line that's less than $500. They also have sales a lot, I got mine for $300 off during one of their promotions!
  • I went to the Davids Bridal off Morse Rd and that's where I got my dress.  I had a good experience my whole way through with them.

  • We went to the David's on Sawmill and I had a very very good experience.  I am a size 16 bride and 2 of my BMs are plus-size and they were very accomodating to their dresses, as well!!

  • My dress was 125 off and I just bought it they have a sale going on currently depending on how much you spend you get a certain amount off, I love my dress I spent a little more than I would have thought, but I am completely happy and now I don't need as many accessories!

As I said in another post, I am also a budget bride. I just took a very close, (one of my bridesmaids) friend who is a size 16 to David's, and there was quite a bit for her, although like many places there were fewer sale dresses in the women's sizes. Personally I reffuse to spend a fortune on a dress I will wear once for five or six hours, but I still want something that looks bridal, and I am pretty specific in the vision I have for my wedding. So I am planning on buying a "preowned" gown. There are some great sites for that, and often you can find a far better selection in your size.

That said, be advised that formal dress in general run VERY small, and wedding dresses are no exception! My friend who barely fit in a size 16 wedding gown is down to a 12 or 14 in regular ladies clothing. She was getting upset, but I reminded her that the size is really irrelevant beyond helping you to shop. What does matter is getting a good idea of what size you do wear so you can comparison shop, and/or purchase online. The truth is, the single most attractive quality a woman can have is CONFIDENCE. So pick out the dress that makes you feel the most beautiful, and is flattering in your current size, and you will be a beautiful bride.

Also, do not allow the salesladies to even bring you dresses out of your price range. It is a VERY common tactic in many bridal shops to get you out of your price range by having you try on dresses you can't afford, and then try to talk you into financing it, or borrowing money from family/friends. Tell them, "Unless you can sell this dress to me for my maximum price or LESS, I don't want or need to try it on, thank you." After all, many shops, even David's, will haggle with you on price, so it never hurts to ask for a discount!
