Unique Guest Book?

So, I want a guest book for my reception but I want something unique that won't just go into a drawer/box after all is said and done.  I suppose I could buy one of those fancy guest books and rip out the pages to put in a scrapbook but what's the point in spending the money on the frilly guest book if I'm only going to destroy it.
We are doing a matted picture frame for folks to sign if they want but I also wanted a "guest book" to keep the traditional portion of it.  Any unique ideas for a guest book that I could later put the pages/names into a scrapbook I make after the wedding?
Thank you,
Liz

We are making a coffee table book with pictures of each of us from our childhood as well as pictures together. I plan to put a few "about us" pages as well as a page with our proposal story. Then there will be space on the pages for the guests to sign.

we did a photo mat that now hangs in our living room. It's a great reminder of our day and everyone who celebrated with us.

I saw somewhere recently an idea I think I might use.  At each of your guests' seats, place a "MadLib" type form.  The one that I saw was "Advice for the newly weds" where you would write the bulk of it, but leave "noun" or "adjective" blanks for people to fill in.  Then at the bottom, leave a couple lines for the person to write a personal note and sign their name.  You can print them on your home computer on nice paper stock.  Then you can collect them and put them in a book.  Decorate the outside of the book, and leave some spaces to add pics from the wedding inside and you have a great keepsake, that you can leave out on a coffee table for people to look at.

I totally agree with you in that I 've never seen the value in a tradtional guest book.  We bought a nice scrapbook with a leather cover.  Then we printed out cardstock that was divided into six boxes with lines so that six people could sign or write something in each box.  We then had our photographer take a picture of each couple/family.  I am going to put the pictures with the cards in the scrapbook, so I have the sweet comments and their picture in one book!

Some other ideas: Picture book-of your engagement pictures, a hobby you both enjoy, the place where you are getting married, and have people sign in the margins/blank pages
Wish Tree/Bucket/Jar:  Have a bunch of pretty pieces of paper pre cut and a pen for people to write their thoughts/ good wishes on.  Then they can tie them to a tree/place them in a bucket/jar/whatever.  You can either place the whole jar on your mantel or put the pieces of paper in a scrapbook.
Pottery: Some places have a ceramic platter that your guests can sign.  After the wedding they glaze and fire it so you have a funtional keepsake.

That's all I can think of right now!  GL!

I suppose you could just have fancy/decorative notecards/paper/whatever spread out on a table, and your guests can write notes on that and put them in a vase. Then, whenever you get your pictures back from your photographer and have everything you want for your scrapbook... just mix in the notes from the guests with the pictures. Basically, the same as Annabear07's idea.

I was thinking of foregoing the "book" all together. I was going to have guests write their notes on swaths of fabric, then sew all the pieces together and make a quilt that can rest on the back of our couch or something.

We had a photobooth for ours. Each guest took a turn in the booth, the stuck a strip in the guest book with a note. I look at it at least once a week because it is so funny!

I went on etsy and bought a blank guestbook... then I bought a new mini polaroid zook printer, and had an acquaintence of mine take pictures of guests as they walked in, and printed them on the spot... then the guests came back later in the evening, and put their pictures in the guestbook with a message to us. It was amazing, and I still laugh when I read the entries - some were so creative... I actually still have (and dont use) the printer... If this is something you are interested in, Ill sell it to you! email me vpshires at gmail dot com

I'm with goobers, I am going to cut out leaves with cloth, have permanent fabric markers to write with and make a wedding quilt after for my FI.

We are using river rocks and metalic markers for the guests to write messages on the rocks and then put into a vase. I love the photobook idea!
