Okay, so for a little update, I'm back in WA, but only for a week. I'm driving across the country starting next Wednesday!!
Anyway, I got in at like 1 am this morning, thanks to flight delays in NC, and MI. I had to go get a new dependent id, due to H's recent promotion, among other things to get in order before I move. I normally go up to Bangor/Kitsap base, but was told to just go to the Bremerton pass & id since it would be closer, I was like yessssss less driving!!! I get there and they won't have time to do my id (which takes like 10 mins) because they have to process 3 families and they close in 45 mins.
Beach-Does it take like FOREVER to get around up where you are? or is just down here around the Sound?
Anyway, I'm rerouted to the reserve center's Pass & Id, but I was warned by a very helpful MA, that if I go too far around a corner, I'll be in a "restricted area". No pressure. Driving around a huge ship yard, that I've never been to, with all sorts of construction, and "restricted areas"... Ugh.. So I find said Pass & Id, go in, realize I left my wallet in the car, run the half a mile back to the parking lot, grab said wallet, and run back. The lady is all kinds of confused because my SSN brings me up with my madien name. I explain to her, that I separated from AD before my legal name change, and since I was SEPARATED, that it really shouldn't matter. I mean, I already have a dependent id, why the 20 questions?! Anyway, 20 mins, and 1 horrible photo later, I'm leaving, and as I go to leave, there is a sign for no left turns, so I go right hoping to turn around in a few feet or so. Guess where I ended up.. In the "RESTRICTED AREA" which, was not marked. How is it so restricted if you don't even know you're there?. So some civillian cop starts, no kidding, SCREAMING at me, demanding to know what my business was there, and to see at least 2 forms of id, and my proof of insurance. After deciding that I was only a tired, stressed out military spouse on the verge of tears, he directs me to what was supposed to me the closest exit, but alas.. it is not. He sent me another security checkpoint. After showing this MA my id, and crying about how I just want to get off this base, he calls for back up and so I'm "escorted" off of the base. Talk about embarrassing.
Surely this must be the end, you say.. No. No, it is not. I stop at Target, and I see a Sailor, in cami's, uncovered, outside, walking and talking on his cell phone. Stan-Did your eyes just bugg out? Mine did!! I very politely walked up to him, and I said "Where's your cover shipmate?" to which he replied "Eff you Biitch", He was a seaman, E-1 to E-3, so I said "You may think that I'm just a nosey civilian, but I was a sailor, so I happen to know that you are HORRIBLY out of uniform, I suggest you tell me the name of your supervisor, and your command, end your phone conversation, and go back to your car and get your cover" This gave me more than a mild sense of satisfaction, and I rewarded myself with a Coconut Mocha Frappacino from Starbucks.
Does anyone else have a fun Hump day story?
