What Bank

I know this is random, but I was looking into what bank to use when my FI and I create a joint account for wedding gifts/to use after we're married for savings and bills.

I currently use Wells Fargo (and have since they were still Wachovia), and my FI uses Bank of America.

As much as I love Wells Fargo and have never had any issues, they do have some fees for the lower accounts, but also do let you earn interest.  My FI likes Bank of America, but is open to switching.

What do you ladies use and what do you like/not like about that particular bank?

I have PNC and I absolutely love my bank. There are no fees for normal checking accounts (or savings accounts for that matter). The customer service has always been extremely helpful. I'd recommend them to anyone.

ETA: It looks like there's only 1 branch in all of SC so that probably wouldn't be a good fit for you guys.

FWIW, I've had Chase and Bank of America in the past and I hated them both. The fees they charged me were outrageous and the customer service sucked.

  • FI and I both have PNC and love it as well. I've never had any problems with them and have never paid a fee since I've been with them!

FI and I have an account at Wells Fargo which is fine but I have my own account at TD Bank which I like better.

  • I have Chase, I've never been charged a fee. I also have the chase freedom credit card. So I pretty much charge everything to the credit card to get 1% on purchases and then they have 5% categories that rotate. 6 months of the years it's 5% cash back on gas. Then I just pay the credit card off monthly before I get charged interest. I can just pay it on my phone with the chase app.
I also love quick pay with Chase. FI and I always send each other money from our phones when we want to split a bill or anything like that. We won't be having a joint account when we get married, we both just have our own Chase accounts.

  • I have Bank of America and I hate their customer service.  But I'm always traveling all over, and it's convenient to do my banking wherever I am.

  • Unfortunately most banks charge fees now, so you need to make your decision based on the service and features of that bank, not because its free. Does the bank have an updated app that lets you make deposits (suuuper handy). Are there convenient locations? Open Saturday for business?  Does the bank have hours that are (somewhat) convenient for you? And when you walk in, is there someone there who you can get to know who would remember you next time? These are all things that I consider when looking for a bank.

FI and I are currently with Vystar Credit Union, which I think is only local to NE FL. I had an acct with Chase, but there is only 1 branch in Jacksonville and that is NOT convenient for me.

  • I'm probably going to end up staying with Wells Fargo since I've never had any issues and their customer service is great.  The only negative is with us moving somewhere we don't know yet, anything that's regional isn't an option.  Wells Fargo makes it easy to link accounts so you can transfer funds easily too.

Thanks for all the help ladies!
