DIY opinions?

Ugh, stupid TK. I posted this last night, and it ate it.

So... I want your opinions on one of my DIY projects.

Backstory: My FI and I are having an outdoor wedding, peacock colors with a rustic touch. It's here in VA, overlooking the blue ridge mountains. We are renting natural wooden chairs (not white) and we are lining the aisleway with shepherd's hooks. We're hanging mason jars off of the shepherd's hooks with twine, and we're going to put a white hydrangea and greenery in each jar.

My FI, MOH, BM's and dear friend LOVE the jar look- my mom and her friend aren't crazy about it... so I want your opinions.

Do you like the bow/placement? Do you think it's too busy (mom's words) or that it speaks simple southern charm (my idea! lol)

Every other color will be this one, and every other color is a deep purple (like the David's Bridal Plum).  ETA: the Shepherd's hooks they are hanging off of are black iron, just in case anyone wonders.

Thoughts? I tried the bow higher over the twine and that looked awful.

Thanks!

Re: DIY opinions?

  • I think it will look lovely- the flowers and the greenery will cover some of the twine too. Maybe if you changed out the twine she'd like it more?  Maybe a rope like string? This thought is in the mother appeasing category- it looks fine to me.

I don't think they are too busy. I think that the placement of the bow is perfect... and we're using hydrangeas too :-) Our florist actually has these little glass jars that have holes in the top that she runs a ribbon through. My (not at all rustic/vintage) Mom loved them.

Another option is to use one color or to use one color on the "reserved" rows (ie where family/bridal party sit) and do the rest in the other color so purple for the back 10 rows and blue for the front 3 rows. That way you indicate reserved seats and it's more color blocked.

I think regardless it's lovely but I know from experience that little changes make my mom buy into my designs sometimes. :-)
  • Would she like it better if there was no bow? That way you could see the flowers inside more and it would be less "busy". I really like it.

  • personally I would tie the bow around the top with thinner ribbon, It looks kinda like its just sitting there to be a bow in the middle, I think around the top it would be less distracting and seem like a more natural place to tie a bow.....but thats just my opinion, if its more your style the way it is I say keep it, but maybe play around a bit more and see if you like other options? Also what about  2 thin ribbons (maybe white and purple or white and blue)instead of one thats so bold?
