UPDATE3:30 AM I am beat!

I spent the night last night with my sister in the hospital. She didnt have a roomie so I was able to sleep in a bed. When I left her body was finally accepting the anitbotics and was told she has to be fever free for 48 hours to go home. She was looking to go home on wednesday. Well I stayed with her until 3:30pm today. I came home, ate dinner and went to bed again at 6:30pm! I just woke up because my sister called me and said that she spiked another fever so she is now hoping for a thursday dismissal. But now she is having contractions again. They only were monitoring her contractions after meals because she wasnt having anymore after the shot to stop them. But now she is on monitoring through the night. When I was there, after her breakfast, she had a couple but nothing for cause for concern, nothing consistant. She only has to hold off on having the baby until June 22nd.

UPDATE: June 22nd she will be considered Full term.
She has been contracting through the night and is now 3cm dilated and 70% effaced. They are most likely going to keep her in the hospital until she has the baby. They arent saying she is IN labor although she is contracting and dilating but they dont see her going past the next week preg. So more then likely there will be a baby by the end of this month!!

  • why June 22nd??

I hope she gets better really fast!!!  Dang infections!!!
  • Oh no!  I hope she starts really getting better ASAP and that she can keep that baby in as long as possible!  Hugs to both of you.

Littlemoments I would think they are trying to keep baby in until at least 37 weeks to reduce risk of serious problems for both mom and baby.  Its considered early full term.

  • I don't know a whole lot about giving birth....but I was wondering why they want your sister to wait til the 22nd. Why not now? Would ten days make that much of a difference?

  • I am hoping for the best for your sister! I would think having a constant fever and taking antibiotics would be enough to have the baby 10 days earlier than planned. But the doctors know best! They'll decide when it's time.  I wish your sister and her baby all the best :)
  • I hope she gets fever free quickly and doesn't have anymore complications!

  • I hope your sister starts feeling better soon. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way.
  • Wow! Will she be 37 weeks on the 22nd?? I would have assumed that it'd be fine to have a baby right now if needed.

My best friend was born at 28 weeks. So I believe that if your sister has the baby now, both of them will be okay.

  • They found out the main reason for the uti and kidney infection. She contracted Ecoli! She started having contractions again and is 3cm dilated and 70% effaced. The contractions have stopped but she got another fever so she wont be leaving now until friday. Thats IF she doesnt have another fever tomorrow. Her doctor said they arent going to stop her labor anymore if it starts up. but they dont see her going much longer with the baby. She will most likely have him by the end of the month.

  • As someone who works with pregnant moms I hope she can stay pregnant for as long as possible.  There are so many short and long term affects prematurity can cause so keeping babies is as long as possible is always best.  Even babies born at what is conisdered early full term (37-39 weeks) can not have fully mature lungs, etc.  Sometimes their are things that just dont allow this to happen though and sometimes depending on what is going on babies are better off on the outside than the inside.    Its good that they are keeping a close eye on her and baby.  I will continue sending thoughts and prayers to you and your sister.  I am sure whatever happens her doctors will take great care of her and baby.
