I had a NYE wedding just a few months ago, and it was AMAZING! We still have people coming up to us saying it was the best wedding they've ever been to. If you do it, you have to make it great, though...I recommend black tie, a great live band/orchestra, and amazing food. The last thing you want people thinking while they're at your NYE wedding is that they'd rather be somewhere else celebrating the new year.
I've been to two NYE weddings. The one was probably one of our fav weddings ever that we attended! The other was ok. I was pretty ticked because the bride sprayed everyone on the dance floor with champagne at midnight - ruined my dress. So! Do it! But don't spray champagne on your guests! I also recommend sending out STDs because it is a holiday.
I just had my NYE wedding...It was PERFECTION! Everyone was in party mode, everyone had already budgeted big plans for NYE, so most of the guests stayed over, plus I had my wedding on the top floor of a hotel in Boston, so it was just great!
Couple of tips...
-Like kblezien said..if you are going to do it, do it up right! You def don't want your guests to wish they were at that other party they were invited to.
-Instead of exploding champagne on your guests at midnight, I did confetti! It was amazing!
-Push the black tie. I even offered to guests outside of the wedding party hair and makeup services if they wanted to get all dolled up.
-Try to have lots of champagne or drinks to get people in the mood.
-Take extra care in your entertainment so guests feel like they are getting a show!!
-Make sure your photographer is booked through midnight so he can capture all the kissing and hugging that goes on!
I am having a new years eve wedding and i am so excited!! I will say however i booked everything months ago. Its a high party time and lots of places have expensive minimums Good luck!!
Just changed my date to NYE! I found a great venue, reasonably priced, and I'm just trying to get some ideas together now for decorations, food, and entertainment! I'm thinkin about a photobooth but with a live photographer, NYE paty food favorites, and a dessert bar! O yea! And of course a BUNCH of drinks ;-)
