Casual Weddings in Northern DE??

Hi All,

I'm sure this has been asked before, but my fiance and I are kinda stumped trying to find a venue.  We're looking for something in the Newark/Wilmington/southeastPA/northeast MD area (we're flexible).  Basically, we want to have the ceremony and reception in one place, natural light, possibly hold the ceremony outdoors.  The venue should hold 80-100 ppl.  We really don't want a hotel ballroom (i want windows!)....

We LOVED the Rockwood Carriage House, but it's a little too expensive.  So barring that miraculously working out, what other options are there in the area?  Like I said, we're kinda hitting a wall, so any advice is welcome!

Thanks!!

How much was it to rent the Carriage House?? Just curious. I am having my ceremony and reception at Goodstay House and Gardens in Wilmington. Their capacity is 80 people. That is what I wanted originally when I booked it but now it's becoming harder than I thought to limit to 80!!

There is the Farmhouse. I'm not sure what they cost to rent but I would definately look into it.

If you are looking for something different, The Grand Opera House does weddings. I loveddd the idea and I almost went for it but I'm a southern belle at heart and just needed to have a nice house instead. Anyway, you have the ceremony on stage in the Baby Grand and then you have 2 rooms to choose from as far as reception. I would definately check it out just for the fact that it is not your typical wedding!

I got married at The Farmhouse (located on Old Capital Trail near the back entrance to DE Park).  It holds up to 100 ppl (though their website says 125).  It has an old country farm type feeling.  I had my ceremony on one of their two ceremony sites and everything about the day was perfect.  Now, I got married on a Sunday just over a year ago (10/11/09) and it was approx $70 pp.  Lori, the coordinator, is very nice and helpful.  Oh, and their food is yummy, and almost everything is included in the price.

I recently went to a wedding at the gild hall in Arden, DE.  It is basically just a room though so you would need a caterer and all that jazz.  It is very beautiful though.

The farmhouse is gorgeous... Ours is at the North East River Yacht Club. It's on the river, ceremony space outside, windows along three whole sides of the venue, very inexpensive and amazing food. :)

I think the rental fees @ Rockwood were somewhere from like $2-3K, depending on day, month, which areas you're renting, and any specials that they're running.  It's run by the Greenery Caterers, so just google them, the webiste has lots of good info.  It's a need space that you could dress up or down as you like...which is a level of flexibility I haven't seen at many places.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

my MOH had her wedding at the farmhouse and it was wonderful and i believe very reasonably priced...i looked at bellevue and it is 6K just to rent the space and you still need a caterer, plus a few other things i didn't like about the inside space made me look elsewhere even though the outdoor ceremony space it gorgeous. you could try the DE center for horticulture, i can't remember what the prices where but it just wasn't my style, i also can't remember the prices for loch nairn but the reception area has lots of windows/lighting and is really pretty and there is space for an outdoor ceremny if you don't mind all the golfers...good luck!

Look at the Kitty Knight House or the Granary (south of Chesapeake City, MD). Both have water views, you can have the ceremony outside. Very reasonably priced, great food! The dining room at the Kitty Knight has two walls of windows. It is beautiful! And is very budget friendly!! I just had my wedding there last weekend and it was awesome! Here is a picture of our ceremony on the deck. I hope the size of the pic is ok, haven't done this before!

I don't have any good photos from indoors yet but this on will give you an idea of the windows in the room.

FI and I just went to a very casual wedding that was at this farm out in Maryland... it was really cute!!!  The ceremony was in the barn, and outside they had a moonbounce set up for the kids, plus an in-ground pool.  We had barbeque for dinner, and it was delicious.  I don't remember the name of it, but I could probably get it from the bride & groom.  PM me if you're interested.
Paprika: I like it when you burp in my ear. It really turns me on.

We're getting married at The Farmhouse on 10/22/11.  The pricing is wonderful.  It cost 1100 on top of the amount per person, but pretty much everything is included, including the cake.  We are very happy with our choice.  Good luck to you!

Milburn Orchards in Elkton, MD (just outside of Newark) is another option if you were wanting to do an outside event.  You can do the whole thing outside, or you can have tents.  The price to rent space is VERY inexpensive, and the have people to help coordinate with vendors the day of for a reasonable price as well.  Another big money saver is the fact that you can bring in your own alcohol (just pay a small fee for insurance) and caterer.  They have some food options there if you want to go super casual, but it is mostly geared toward casual get togethers.  They also offer favors!  I don't know all the details. but you can get more info on their website.  Hope this helps.

Try the Bellvue Mansion at Bellvue State Park - beautiful setting. Also, smaller venue is the Caufield Estate, also connected to Bellvue State Park. Great view of the Delaware River. We did our daughter's in our back yard. We had to handle all of the set-up, but hired a caterer for much of the food. We have lots and lots of linens, toppers, matched up dishware and silverware, serving pieces, outdoor rugs, etc, ito sell f you were thinking of going that route.
