Wedding in Italy- Tips/ Suggestions

Hello Brides!!  Thus far, my wedding journey has been all over the place, but we have finally come to a rock solid decision. Italy is the place!!  The details of planning a large wedding at home were overwhelming my life so I couldn't feel more thrilled about my decision.   We have opted to have everything legally done here in the US and then have a symbolic ceremony in Rome, just us.  I have been speaking with a planner based in Rome but my decision on her is not concrete, I am still looking for other options on planners/ photographers etc.

We also plan to have a very small reception when we return to share our pictures and experiences.  I did not want to miss out on that part!!!

My question for all ladies is if anyone on this board has done the same thing or in the process of getting married abroad, I would love to learn more about other brides' experinces in Italy, what they liked, what they disliked, what they wish they had done different, etc.

I'm super excited by the way!! Thank you!!!

  • No advice for you but good luck!!!
  • Look up symbolic unions, Italy on fb. I saw their site through my planners site
  • No advice, but I love Italy!

If you're there in the summer, they open up these temporary restuarants on the river in Rome, could be a great place for a small wedding, or reception afterwards. Very romantic.

Hi OP and hello again to everyone on the board! :::waves hi:::

I'm from Rome and would be happy to help. MH and I are planning a vow renewal in the vicinity of the city for our 3rd anniversary so I guess yours and my planning will somewhat be alike :)

I'm looking on bringing a photographer from the US and one I really like recently suggested an Italian planner they have worked with in the past and trust. I'll be happy to share their info, just PM me anytime.
I did contact them myself a while back to gather information, they were prompt and friendly.
We later decided to skip hiring a planner altogether since we're locals and can manage with the venue's coordinators alone.

    Happy planning!
  • No advice really, but at least you're speaking with a planner and getting ideas. When it comes to Italy it was a run-around (we felt) to get the marriage legal and we opted for something simple in the DR. At least you also decided on what course you wanted to do. We were lucky in choosing resort where it was legal and religious at the same time just like as if we were getting married here in NY. I feel that's one of the hardest decisions a Destination Knottie has to make...If you need a planner I recommend Kasal NY and they've done destinations as well as Floral designer Ivie Joy Flowers + Events. Best of luck!
  • Thank you all for your responses!! We just booked our flights today, I thought that was a good starting point, now we just need to fill in the rest!!  Thanks again and good luck to all of you!!!
