Newbie. Needing Help Ladies

hey ladies, I am in the process of planning mine and my sailors engagement party.  We want it to be on New Year's Eve, but are kind of lost on what we would want to do...what to serve....etc....We want to make a slidesow of us from years ago to now with our lil girl.  We want to to be not like way up in price or anything. Just a get together with our loved ones and all to celebrate us finally getting engaged after about five years.  Any ideas on anything

You should scroll through older posts, since it seems like this question is answered a lot.  That being said, you cannot host your own engagement party (in fact, it's against etiquette to host parties in honor of yourself.)  If someone offers to host an engagement party for you, by all means accept, but do not host your own e-party.

If no one offers to throw you one, then you don't get one. It's harsh, I know, but it's rude to throw a party for yourself in your own honor, especially a gift giving event.

Ditto the above.  You're not supposed to throw parties for yourself.  Have a New Year's Eve party.  Plenty of people at the party who know you have gotten engaged will congratulate you and celebrate you and talk about you being engaged w/o you having breached any etiquette.

Congrats on your engagement.  I have to echo everyone else.  If no one offers to throw you an engagement party you don't get one.  They are a party thrown in your honor, like a shower would be.  It just isn't something you host yourself.
