I don't even know any more...

Ok long story short, our wedding is June 2, just a mere 16 days away.  My DF got a call today from our reception hall saying that the 2 rooms we had rented for the reception was no longer going to work.  These are the rooms that are usually divided.  So we have 130 people RSVPd and no where big enough to celebrate.

There is no contract (very small town) and also no deposit.  So plan B is to go tomorrow and talk to a different venue and see what we can do.  It willl all work out we know it will, as long as we are married in the end I really am not too overly worried.  But this also means we have to dump our catorer since they don't allow outside food (thank god the guy was super nice and again no contract or deposit)

So we have 16 days to re-vamp everything..

Sorry it just feels good to get this written out, kinda theraputic.

  • I'm sorry that happened.  That's why contracts are nice, but at least you didn't lose a deposit!  I hope you can find another venue!  And you're honestly handling it very well from your post.  I'm sure there's a venue somewhere that you can use that will hold everyone.

  • Thank you!  I feel more at peace now after talking to a different venue over the phone, but I'll be honest I was really upset when R told me (had to have me a rum and coke).  We just feel betrayed, and we still aren't sure when they would have told us, I had R call and double check 3 days ago.  Def. a learning experience.

It may be a lot of work, but you can do it!

Our reception venue decided to close its doors 12 days before our event and we HAD a contract though no deposit had been required...  It was sooo frustrating but we did find a nice venue willing to accomodate and in the end it turned out better than it probably would have at the original venue we had booked and was cheaper to boot.

May I suggest making a post on your local boards if you already haven't?  The ladies on mine were really nice with trying to find me some new options incase our new plan of action didn't work out.

[QUOTE]Contracts are a must, small town or no.  I live in a small town and none of the business owners here see that as a reason to put their livelihoods at risk by not having contracts.  That's a piss poor excuse for bad business ownership.

</div><div>OP, I hope it all works out for you and you don't end up losing a bunch of money.  I would consider this a learning experience and insist on contracts for this sort of thing in the future.  </div>
  • A similar thing happened to a friend in my small hometown when the venue all the sudden switched owners and they didn't honor any outstanding contracts (everyone got their deposits back, though).
She ended up finding a place at the last hour and it turned out beautiful. It will work out!! :)
  • Sorry this happened to you. You are surprisinlgy calm and rational about the situaltion though :) Good Luck and all the best for your upcoming marriage.
  • Thank you to all of you, you have all been a great help.  Honestly this morning now that the dust has settled I am actually laughing about it.  I think its almost funny since for me it seems nothing is ever easy.  Def learned a lesson!!! Now just waiting til 5:30pm to go and meet with another venue.
