Hawaii

Opps I need to introduce myself!

My name is Shantina
We are getting married on Maui
Our date is June 17th 2011

I have never been to Maui, a few weeks after we got engaged we just decided that would be the perfect. My FI has been before for his sisters wedding in 2003. So I've loved having her for all her advice. :)

Welcome to the board! How many guests are you thinking of having? How did you meet your fiancé?

We have about 30 people coming to Maui which is amazing. We are having an at home reception in July and we are planning on inviting about 150 people to that. I met my fiancé met in high school. Our wedding day will be our 6 years of dating. We are both so excited!

Welcome, and congrats!!  I don't know if I would have had the guts to have a wedding in Hawaii if I hadn't been there before, you are a brave girl!  Rest assured, Maui is absolutely amazing.  Truly heaven on earth!  Can't wait to see what you have in mind for your big day!

I am so glad I found this part of the website. We got engaged in August and I feel like I am on here everyday searching through everything so when I came accross this I was so excited! Our ceremony will be held on the beach I think called Makena Surf. . . getting married on a public beach is actually by far my biggest worry. I just hope its still private enough for us.

Brittana and I are both did/are getting married on Makena because that's both our sisters' names!  When I found this board, it was awesome.  I also do a lot with the destination wedding board too.  My two FAV boards ever, with the best girls on TK  :)

Ps. I haven't been to Maui either before getting married there, and I CANNOT wait :)

    Cryssy,

We do have a lot in common! :) Did you go through a company for everything? We are working with Deanne with precious maui weddings. Are you doing anything special on the beach like having chairs or anything like that?

Ok this is just getting to be too much LOL.......... I'm working with Deanne also!!

No we're just having our family and friends stand around us (no bridesmaids or groomsmen), super simple wedding. After the wedding we're hosting a gathering at our condo for dinner and cocktails. Once we return home we will do a more formal reception with about 110 with dinner, dancing, toasts, etc. How bout' you?? Who did you pick as a photographer?

We haven't really talked to her about the details which makes me nervous but at the same time its still about 5 months away so I just figured she was busy with people with weddings closer to date. . . . . hmmm :) I e-mailed her today just trying to figure out our game plan for the day of so we'll see. But Yeah were going to do the beach ceremony with just a maid of honor and best man. After were going to Three's Bar and Grill. Once were home were doing a reception too. I feel like I'm planning 2 weddings its crazy :). Did you already choose a photographer?

We're getting married at Makena beach as well :)

We're not using Precious Maui Weddings, but I'm starting to get the feeling that all of the coordinators are like that. Bill from Maui'd Forever has been extremely helpful so far helping us with accommodations and the basics... but when I asked him if he needed anything else from me, he said not yet. Which makes sense, I guess, we're still more than 8 months out, he doesn't need to know what flowers we want, etc.

I think Deanne must be really busy right now  - I've been working with her for about 9 months now and she is always all over answering any questions I have right away, either email or phone. Lately there has been a bit of a delay so I'm assuming she either has a lot of weddings right now or recovering from a lot.

From what I was told by another Knottie you make contact throughout the engagment period for any questions you have but at about the 3 month mark she'll call and go over a lot of details and basically plan the wedding in 1 or 2 phone calls. I'll keep ya posted on how it goes for me - I'm at the 4 month mark now and I've got the details to the beach (which entrance, parking, etc), officiants name, and details of the marriage license apt with application and working on final numbers for the beach permit. Things are starting to come together now and contact has been much more frequent lately.

We decided to go with Marbelle out of the 3 options we were given, I liked her style the best.

I hear ya on the 2 wedding's being planned, I never thought of it that way and it's so true. Sometimes I wonder if I have a planner for the right function LOL - the Maui part has been a breeze to plan, the AHR has been time consuming and stressful for the most part LOL

Breaness - yay for Makena beach!!! It actually wasn't my first choice beach, I REALLY wanted Makena Cove but when I discussed it with my coordinator she suggested that since we were opting for a sunset wedding and the size of group we had with us we would be better suited for Makena Surf. She assured me that all the lava rocks and trees I was in love with about the Cove could be found on Makena Surf and it was a much larger beach with less concerns of multiple weddings in the same area.

I've seen recent pics of other knotties were married on Makena Surf and it looks pretty perfect to me!!

    Cryssy,

When we first decided to go with her we planned the location, I too wanted Makena cove really bad but our group was a bit to large, which end the end I'm kind of glad we didnt go with that spot. my finace Sam's sister was married in Maui and they went there for their photos after and she said there were 3 ceremonies going on. . . Hopfully non of us have to deal with that :(. I saw you wrote that you saw some pictures from people who were married on Makena Surf do you know of any pictures I could look at I would love to see what they look like.

We had the minister, location, marriage licence appt made too then Adam Gomes i guess booked a vaction so we have someone new which is totally fine. Thanks so much for all the information you've been SO helpful!

ya - no worries, glad I could help. Feel free to ask anytime.

The one person I can think of off the top of my head who was married on Makena Surf recently was Carrieoz_76, she's has some pics in her bio and had great things to say about the beach.

Also I found a website that has quite a few pics: go to www.islandweddingmemories.com, scroll to the bottom and click on the "locations" under quick navigation, there's a link there asking if you "want to see actual weddings at these locations", and choose Makena Surf..... there's tons of pics there.

Hi i am just wondering if you have already had your wedding on Makena Surf or not?? Thats one of the many beaches I am looking at in Maui, and have the same concern, that it might not be private enough!!
