Hi Ladies,
Today I went for my makeup and hair trial.  I loved the hair that the MUA gave me from the pictures I showed her.  The make up was a bit too much for me though.  When I told her this, she suggested to have the makeup a little heavier so that it photographs well, otherwise, I will look pale and washed out in the pictures.  But to me, it looked too dramatic and was not anything like the makeup pictures I showed her.  So I wore the makeup for the whole day to see if I would come to love the eyes and at 7pm, just wasn't loving the smokey eye look.  Plus, my lids seemed way too heavy since I was wearing false lashes.  My questions are:  Is it true that heavier makeup look better in photographs?  Did you girls feel that false lashes made your lids heavy?  Or is it just because I'm not used to wearing them.  Thanks :)

    I have found that you do indeed need alot of makeup in order to get it to show up in photos.  But do you want it to show?  Or do you want to look more natural, like you aren't wearing anything? 

    I would talk to your photographer too, and get their opinion on it. 

    I'm don't really have any experience with faux lashes.  Is it possible to leave them on for the more prominent photo times and then take them off once you get to the dancing part of the reception?  I'm not sure how that glue works exactly.  

    PS How did your hair look? :-)

    I too thought my make up was SUPER heavy, but everyone kept telling me to see it in photographs (in the sun, with a flash etc)... I am happy to say that I am so thankful I had her tone it down a BIT but not much - I loved the way I looked on my wedding day and didn't feel like I was rolled in makeup! I chatted with my photographers and they said that you will no matter what look washed out if you don't do a heavy makeup base because of this H even went and spray tanned - like I said our photos are amazing and I am thankful I did have my makeup heavy...

    Lashes have to grow on you (haha no pun intended) for my makeup trial they drove me nuts on my wedding day I didn't even realize they were there! I actually forgot about them so as I'm showering and something falls off my face I SCREAMED while in the shower... my new H found it hilarious!

    Did you do airbrush makeup? I was surprised at how light it felt on my face - not heavy and cakey at all like some liquid foundations. I don't necessarily agree with your MUA's statement that heavier makeup looks better in photos, but any type of makeup (even a light, sheer foundation) looks better than a bare face in photos.

    I didn't love the first eye makeup look that my MUA did during my trial, so I asked her to tone down the smokey eye to a level that looked more natural. Definitely try talking to her and see if she's willing to compromise on a look that feels comfortable and looks more like you. No idea on the false eyelashes - I have very thick, long lashes and didn't need to use them (just some really good waterproof mascara).

    I had a lot of makeup on when all was said and done but I have pretty uneven skin so there was a lot of foundation/base stuff.  I asked for a pretty neutral look on my big day - basically a more polised version of myself.  I had a light blush, very neutral lipstick so I didn't have to worry about leaving marks on DH or reapplying all day and a little drama on my eyes since they virtually disappear when I smile anyway.  It was a LOT more than I  ususally wear but it doesn't look like it in my pics.  I think that your Makeup Artist was right when she said that you do typically end up with more makeup but you also need to like it.  It is entirely possible to have a neutral appearance and have enough on you to make you not wash out in pics.

    False lashes do feel false when you're not accustomed to them.  Did she do singles or strip?  If she did strip ask for singles and less of them.  You could also buy some singles and wear them for a few weeks before the day so the "full" lash doesn't feel so heavy.

    Yes, I did do airbrush makeup.  I liked it alot.  You're right, it didn't feel cakey at all.  I guess my main problem is the eyes in that I didn't love it.  I got lots of compliments on the eyes while shopping for shoes but just couldn't bring myself to do it again for the wedding.  I took lots of photos on my camera and looked at them again this morning and feelings haven't changed :/  I do feel bad though for wanting to schedule another makeup preview, but I just want to make sure that I see what I'm getting beforehand.

    She did a strip of lashes.  The whole time I was wearing them, I felt like I couldn't see as well since my eyes were half way covered by the lids because of the lashes haha.  Yes, I think I will buy some lashes and wear them just to get comfortable with them beforehand.  I also noticed that my eyes kept watering...probably because of the lashes.  Is there a particular brand of false lashes that you or anyone would recommend?

    It is true that you should wear a little more makeup when being photographed, same goes for stage too.

    Like PPs said, it'd be good to see it in various photographs at different times of day too.

    I rarely wear makeup on a daily basis, so I've been playing around with different looks and products to see what I like and will last since makeup has a tendency to not last at all on my face.

    I tried a few different looks for my makeup trial- a couple smoky eye variations, and one more neutral eye with winged black eyeliner. Even though the smoky eyes were more dramatic, it didn't feel like "me". I absolutely loved the more neutral eye with liner and lashes. Maybe this is an alternative for you? I loved how I looked and photographed. The below pic was my inspiration pic: (sorry that it was angelina though haha)

    You're paying her, so you should love the results.  I agree you probably do need heavier makeup for photos, but if you don't love the smokey eye look, she can most likely do a less dramatic, more natural version that is heavy enough for photos.  Good luck!
