Help me shop

FI just found out we're invited to a Marine Corps Ball this year (it was up in the air as he isn't active duty yet, and thus doesn't have a duty station he's tied to). So I need to find a dress!

I have my heart set on this image of a red floor length gown with one shoulder strap. I'm not a blingy person, but a faux flower or two would be great. I'd like to spend under $150, if possible!

I'm considering bridesmaids gowns, but I don't know where to start since I never had to do this since I've never been a bridesmaid and don't have any myself. Any suggestions?

I'm a size 8 and only 5'4", so mermaid waists look really dumb on me.

I love Nordstrom for dresses. Especially because over $200 is free shipping, so I pick a dress, order it in 2 sizes, and then send back the one that doesn't fit. They deduct $6.95 (I think) for return shipping.

NOOO idea how these actually look in real life, but you could do anything with it, and its cheap! Add a brooch or flower pin and youre gtg. Clicky and it comes in "pimento red." I wonder what that acutally looks like.....

I love that dress too C. I actually have it in black from one of the balls we went too and I love it! I saw the sizes available though and figured they would be too big. That stinks.

Spiffy, that's cute, too! I think that isn't quite a mermaid, more a fit-and-flare, which would be okay. It's the ones where you've got to be tall and leggy that don't work - I end up looking short and stumpy.

Thanks ladies! My Mom's going to stop at the store to check it out for me - online it's going for around $150, so that's good. I have a feeling Mom's just going to buy it for me as an early birthday gift, which is even better (thanks, Mom!).

ggirl, we're debating between driving up to Savannah and going to the PI one with all FI's buddies from this summer, or there's one down here for SouthCom.

Added incentive to drive up! Plus we're pretty sure FI will be headed back there next July, so it would be nice to maintain/build relationships there. We'll be going for more drinks in Beaufort!

Definitely! Come on up to this one! The food was eh last year, but going out in Savannah was a blast

We plan on getting a hotel to stay in Savannah that night, and added bonus that I don't even need to take a day off the next day (Friday) since its Veteran's Day.
