XP: Dash Diet?

Hey ladies,

Has anyone heard of the DASH diet? I saw it on the news this morning and a dietician said the diet is used for individuals with high blood pressure and it's great for the whole family. Apparently it's about having a well balanced diet, so I feel like it's something that will help me get on the right track with a healthy lifestyle change.

Thanks :)

  • I'm not familiar with the dash diet, but if it's a well balanced diet, then that's definitely a good thing!

  • Yeah...that's really not a diet, it looks just like the recommended (for the average person), balanced eating plan.  I can't see many problems with it.

I do see that it mentions low sodium, and while eating TOO much sodium can definitely be bad, cutting too much without a doctor's orders can be harmful.

  • I saw that too... and agree, it's more of a balanced eating plan.  Which, lets face it, is better than what most people do.  I think if you were to take it, and scale it down to the correct calories required for you to have a healthy level of weight loss it could work though.

I do a modified Zone diet... using low-glycemic carbs, and only eating carbs ith my first two meals of the day, which I think is pretty similar to this and it has worked really really well for me.  Probably the big difference between what I do and Dash is the timing of when I eat carbs, and what carbs I eat.  Like I don't eat fruit, or anything with gluten...

  • I love the Zone! My mother did it while I was growing up, so I did it too (by choice--I was a very healthy kid--LOVED my veggies)! The Zone I think was the best eating plan I've ever done.
