Stupid houseplant question

My dad gave me 4 little spider plant babies.  They've been chillin' in their little 3in square plastic pots for far too long.  I need to get them into real pots--but how much room do they need?  My dad said I could plant at least 3 in the same pot.  I have an 8in square pot--is that big enough for 2-3?  I would ask my dad, but he yelled at me to repot them when he was here in the fall, so I don't want to, haha.

It might do for now, but as they get larger you will probably have to replant them again.
  • Oh, yeah I should have mentioned that I plan to pot them individually as they get large enough.  How will I know when they're too big for what they're in now?

And?  Since I ask a billion gardening and plant questions and you have all the answers--are there any specific good websites that I can peruse to help educate myself a little better on plants and such?

  • FOR YOUR INFORMATION, I kept two tomato plants alive all summer last year, and I have my 4 spider plants, a bunch of green onions, and some sort of sage plant (I can't remember which kind) that are alive right now that have all been alive FOR A LONG TIME.

    Hmph.

I sorta just know gardening/plant info based on stuff Ive learned from my mom and aunt. Ive read a few things here and there but it was all very specific (companion gardening). Sorry!

Plants like that you will have to pot and re-pot eventually.  Even thin out once they get too big.

  • I would repot them now just like you said 3 in one pot. Spider plants seem to enjoy being in tiny pots and mine have always done best when they are in what seems like waayy too tiny pots. I put em in big pots & they take forever to start growing again, but put em into slighly larger pots than they were in & voila they start growing right away.
