church weddings

We do not belong to a church, but prefer to get married in one. Does anyone know of a church that will let you play your own music for the ceremony and not an organ/piano?

Re: church weddings

  • You should probably post this on the local, PITTSBURGH, board.  People in the area would likely have a better idea of specific places which might be good resources for you.

Surely, this question will come up ... Why do you prefer to marry in a Church when neither of you belong to one?  You probably ought to be ready to answer that ... on these boards and when you go shopping for a Church.

    Good luck!
  • From what I understand, Unitarian Universalist churches are generally open to performing weddings of non-members, and are open to interfaith and non-traditional ceremonies.  If there is a UU church in your area, you might poke around their website to see if it says anything about weddings of non-members.

  • I'm really not trying to be snarky, but why do you want to be married in a church if you do not attend one?  Churches tend to get very offended when people want to use them for aesthentic purposes/pretty pictures.  Keep in mind that a church is a sacred place and their interest is to worship and serve God (or whatever diety they affiliate with).  Most churches I know of will not allow someone to use the church just for a wedding and play their own music.  Again, really not trying to be snarky.

I think Avion's suggestion of the Unitarian Univeralist Church would be a good place to start.  They would be most open to what you are looking for.  Good luck.
  • Why do you want to be married in a church if religion is not important enough to you to already belong to one or join one as a parishioner?

  • I agree with checking the local board.  There might be historic chapels that don't have active congregations where you could get married.
