Outdoor Weddings

Bugs?

Hi Knotties. I figured I might get the best answer to my question here. I am getting married at an arboretum in 27 days. A friend of mine went to a wedding there last week and said it was nice with the exception of the bugs. Now my mind is racing about what to do about the bugs. I am thinking about placing a pack of Off wipes on each chair or filling little bottles with some OFF. I am at a loss for what to do. I cannot do the citranella  (sp?) candles because there are no open flames allowed. Anybody have any ideas?

Re: Bugs?

  • Was it specifically mosquitos?  Off wipes won't be good for much else.  I know the Japanese Beetle Olympics are being held in my back yard this year because everyone of the little suckers is right here.  There can't possibly be any left anywhere else.  I hate Japanese Beetles.

  • I don't have any great suggestions for you, but keep in mind that mosquitos aren't a steady thing all year long, they go in cycles - eggs, hatch, pest, die.  Hopefully the "circle of life" there will be on your side.  Wish you well with your wedding.
  • We are having our property sprayed by an exterminator a few days prior to the wedding. I'm not sure if this is possible for your venue, though.

  • Dryer sheets are also a good way to go. I rub them on my legs before outdoor weddings and they seem to help.

  • You could see if the venue would let you spray some OFF fogger in the area an hour or two before the ceremony, that stuff lasts for 6 hrs.. if that is not allowed it looks like they have several other products that don't have an open flame, but they look like they are more expensive.. PowerPad Lamps and mosquito coils

  • Thanks Ladies! I think I will see if they can spray some fogger. I doubt it though since it is an arboretum they might think that it is against nature. Doesn't hurt to ask though. Thanks again.

I am not a botonist, but there is a certain plant that smells kind of minty, and it repels misquitos. If you can hang them, they're just leafy plants, but soft and lovely to look at. You could use those as decoration, and it should help repel the little blood suckers.

this might be useful for you. Best of luck, and congratulations!!
  • We are putting little Yankee Candle Conceal Votive Candles on the table and  Lamp Light tiki torches around the tables and dance floor.

  • My mom found somewhere that lemongrass oil also repels bugs.  Not sure if it's going to work, but we're putting it out around our venue. I'll PM you my email if you want me to let you know how it turns out!

You could totally pretty that up with a little chalkboard sign.
