hardwood floor cleaner

can anyone recommend a good hardwood floor cleaner?

Re: hardwood floor cleaner

  • If you're looking for something to do as a regular cleaning routine, try a wet swiffer and than a steam mop. I have hardwood and invested in a Haan steam mop and love it! The steam sanitizes, while the swiffer gets the grime off the floor.

I would not suggest that if you have older floors or floors that are not sealed.  Over time the steam can make them buckle.

We have 60 year old harwoods and we use Murphys Oil.

    Same here-- highly recommend!
  • Ditto Bona--it's great!
  • Bona is the best!  Don't get the one that sprays from the broom thing though...it broke on me twice and doesn't spray well.  Just by the mop and spray bottle. (or register for it)

    This.

And yes, everything I have read said that Steam Mops are not good for hardwood floors, even though the packages say they are okay.  Moisture is bad for wood.  Even if the floors have ben recently sealed, any thin spots or gaps will allow the steam to ruin the floor.  Given the cost of hardwood, i woudl never take a chance using a steam mop on our new floors.

We use a cordless vacuum (Electrolux Ergorapido, LOVE this!!) daily, swiffer wet cloths weekly, and then mop with a damp (not wet) mop with Murphy's oil soap every 1-2 months for a deep clean.
