Catering Question

Okay, so I have to admit I'm a bit of timid person when it comes to working with vendors in a small town. I booked a gourmet chef who owns a restaurant and a smallish catering company for our wedding. He is pricey, but his food is much better than the others in town. Heres my issue: when we first started working together, I couldn't make up my mind AT ALL on what we wanted. I had him overhaul the menu entree options 3 times via email. By the third time, I could tell he was getting annoyed, but hey I'm paying the big bucks. Now here's the dilemna: I have prime rib and asked for vegetarian lasagna. He put on the menu a pesto alfredo lasagna with quinoa. It sounds yummy, but I think thats something I need to taste. How do I ask for a tasting from a caterer who has not volunteered to do one? Or do I let the professional just handle it?

Re: Catering Question

  • I would email him and say things sound great when can I schedule a tasting? I would keep it really casual since I'm also pretty timid. I would approach it like it's an assumed thing that just SHOULD happen.

  • We met with four different caterers before deciding and I'm soooooo glad I did.  Regardless of the reputation of the lowest price caterer and the one I was leaning towards on paper--- the food SUCKED.  Like, not edible, and we went out to eat afterwards.

I would do what CandC mentioned.  In the catering industry, tastings are a must.

  • Definitely ask for a tasting.  It is good to remember that you are paying him!
  • I would email him back to and say the dish sounds amazing when woud we be able to come in to taste it and decide!  :)  good luck and seriously... that dish does sound amazing!
