Napa Valley Honeymoon suggestions???

My fiance and I are getting married on June 18 and we're trying to decide on a honeymoon.  We just got back from a trip to the Dominican Republic, so we want to try a U.S. destination instead of anything tropical.  Both of us love wine and we're never been wine tasting.  We'd like to stay under $3K for the entire trip.  Does anyone have any recommendations??  We want to create our own package: nice room, champaign, roses, private wine tour & couples massage.  We're hoping to spend 4 nights.

I know everyone is different but for me I found Napa to be the most boring overcommercialized place in the US.  If you've seen one vineyard you've seen them all is my opinion.

Personally I'd only do a couple days there and spend the rest of the time doing something else.

We considered Napa for our honeymoon too but ended up going somewhere more tropical.  The girls on the Northern California board are incredibly helpful when suggesting places to visit, eat, and stay.  I just lurked on that board and found enough suggestions to fill weeks in the Napa and Sonoma areas.  I've also found Lonely Planet guide books to be good.

I would say though that you should hit some NC wineries and do tastings before your trip.  It's like Andrea pointed out, some people get bored quickly with wineries, once they've seen one fermentation room and one field of grapes, they've got the concept.  But others really enjoy it.

NC has great wineries, what area of the state are you in?

I live in Charlotte.  I know there's a Childress Vineyard pretty close by so maybe we'll try that.  We don't have a lot of money to spend on the honeymoon so we're trying to do something that will be fun & cost effective, which probably means staying in the U.S.

We LUV Napa and go almost every fall!  I would def recommend it for your honeymoon if you enjoy wine tasting.  San Francisco is a short drive away.  We usually spend time in Napa and San Fran. We have stayed at bed and breakfasts there and the Silverado Resort, which has the most amazing spa :)  I think Napa/San Fran would be a lovely honeymoon!

Childress is in Lexington, there are other NC wineries closer to Charlotte.  Check out www.visitncwine.com, scroll down and click on "Explore NC Wineries" for an interactive map :)
