Food counts or no food counts? Help!

Some wedding venues I visited require a meal count for the plated dinner and some do not. Which one is the better option for me & my guests and any good/bad experiences you can share with your venue? Just not sure about sending out 200 invites and then counting up beef, chicken and fish the week of my wedding!!! I'm planning a February wedding in Connecticut....

Re: If you don't give them meal counts, do they do table-side ordering the night of the wedding?

So far, I am looking at venues that require a meal count (there is no other option other than buffet - no!) OR some places offer a table side ordering on the night but it is an up charge... ???

I think table-side ordering is more formal.  How formal is your wedding?  Is it in your budget to have table-side ordering, or would you rather spend the money on other things?

Keeping track of the meal counts shouldn't be that big of a deal.  Make a spreadsheet and record RSVPs as they come in, so you don't have to do them all at once.  If your caterer needs to know who has what entree choice (rather than just a general count or a count per table), you can indicate that with the font color or a little sticker on the escort card.

<div>This. Excel spreadsheets are a wonderful thing. If you keep up with the RSVP's, all you have to do is report the tally that the spreadsheet calculates for you. This is what I did and it worked just fine. </div>
