Transportation suggestions

Hi knotties,

I am in a bit of a sticky situation with transportation.
I will be having an afternoon catholic ceremony and then evening reception with about 3 hours of free time in between.  Due to this, I cannot reserve transportation that has minimun hourly requirement as it will be extremely expensive.  Therefore, I require transportation that can give me spotty service, basically whenever I require the car at certain times.

Does anyone have the same issue, and if so, how did you overcome it?  Can you suggest transportation company that can provide that type of service?

Thank you ladies, I appreciate it.

Are you talking about transportation for just you and the groom, for the bridal party, or for the guests?

I needed a shuttle for all of the above, so I hired a shuttle bus at about $100/hour (that included tips and gas and everything). I paid for the shuttle from 3 pm (when the bridal party had to arrive at the church for pictures) through when the after-party ended at 2 a.m. I used Silver West.

I also chose a hotel that offered a free shuttle within a 3-mile radius and would have taken that if I hadn't gotten the shuttle from SW.

Other ladies here have hired a sedan to take them from the reception to wherever they were staying -- angelsong used Executive Car Service just a few weeks ago and gave them an A.

This thread also has a few other ideas: http://forums.theknot.com/Sites/theknot/Pages/Main.aspx/local-wedding-boards_texas-dallas-ft-worth_transportation-question-1
  • If you're talking about a car for you and the groom, I would just hire a car for the end of the reception.

If you mean shuttle service for your guests, talk to your hotel -- if the church is outside of their transport radius, they should probably be able to recommend someone.

  • Forgot to mention the service is for B&G and the wedding party.  I already checked with my hotel and they don't have shuttle service.
    I'll keep on searching.

    Thanks ladies!!
  • If you are getting a limo they are not "on call". They like to have a schedule of who to pick up when and where as sometimes they have multiple events. I had a Catholic ceremony also with a big time difference and hiring a car was worth every penny. We booked a limo to drop everybody off at the church by 1 p.m. for a 2 p.m. start (first groomsmen, then bridal party), pick us up after the ceremony after 3 p.m., drive us around for pictures and then drop off at the reception at 6 p.m.--we got there a little early, which was fine. After the event we had a sedan pick us up at 11 and take us to our hotel.

It really made the day go very smoothly!

    Limo = 5 hours
    Pick-up Time: 01:00 PM
    DO Time: 06:00 PM

Call and see if this company will work with you 214-893-9420. www.segexecutivecarservice.com

I am using them and they are very laid back but professional. Not sure if they can but worth a try.
  • We used Blue Diamond Limos of Texas (despite mixed reviews on this board), and I bet they would be able to work something out. We had 2 limos--one picked the groom/groomsmen up from my apartment where they were getting ready and took them to the church, and the other took the girls from the hotel to the church. After the ceremony (about 1 1/2 hours later) they picked us up in a larger limo to take the WP to the reception. We weren't charged for the time between the ceremony and reception transportation.I went with them based on my planner's rec, and the fact that the hourly minimum was not charged--they were the only place I could find like that.
