I want to have 12 place settings for our dishes. (We aren't getting china, just plain white dishes. We have 8 place settings right now and it doensn't seem like enough.) I also want to get some new steak knives. (A box set or two that can go in a drawer) Is it obnoxious to want 12 steak knives also? Usually knife sets come with 8 at the most....

Re: XP: Help with registering for dinnerware and steak knives.
ETA- I also use steak knives a lot in cooking (granted because we don't have a lot of good knives, but also because I seem to run out of short knives and pulling out a giant one just seems like overkill) so I don't think asking for 2 sets of 8 knives would be too much, either, as long as they're not terribly expensive and you have somewhere to store them.
[QUOTE]I've seen a lot of steak knives that come packaged in sets of 4, but I will add the caveat that they're generally lower quality. I don't think it's obnoxious though - if you routinely invite over enough people that you need more than 8 place settings and then serve steak, who's going to get short-shafted? ETA- I also use steak knives a lot in cooking (granted because we don't have a lot of good knives, but also because I seem to run out of short knives and pulling out a giant one just seems like overkill) so I don't think asking for 2 sets of 8 knives would be too much, either, as long as they're not terribly expensive and you have somewhere to store them.

Exactly! I think it would be tacky if a couple people had to share knives at a sit down dinner. (Chad and I will usually share one. One less thing to wash! But it is different if you have company.)

Knife Block & Extra Steak Knives
They're usually on sale for about $100 less on the block and $80 less on the extra knives.

We have montrose and they are amazing. They are really sharp and very durable.
[QUOTE]Zwilling and Henkels is a great brand but can be expensive. I don't think it's obnoxious to register for two sets of 8. This actually makes me want to now, too. Hadn't even thought of that. I haven't found plates I like yet. I like so many place settings but I don't want/need them. I just want a boxed set but I haven't found any that I like/or are reasonable.

Do it. I love our Henkels Twin (two guys on the emblem instead of one). We've had them for a year now and they're just as perfect as when we got them. We've never had to sharpen them.
