Any Cincy runners on here?!

I know I could have posted this on the 'getting in shape' board , but I was more curious about my local Knotties.

I'm training for my first 1/2 marathon, the Flying Pig on May 1... but want to do some 5k's or 10k's before then. Just wondered if anyone in the area is doing any? Recommend any good/fun races they have enjoyed?

Congrats on training for the Flying Pig!  I've run the 1/2 marathon for the past 2 years and it is my favorite race!  This year I'm doing running in a relay.  It is one of my favorite things to do in Cincinnati!

I really like the Mini-heart Marathon on March 20.  In the past it was a 15k and 5k.  This year they have a lot more events.  I've run the 15k (9.1 miles) in the past to help train for the Flying Pig.  Depending on where you are at in your training you could pick whichever distance you want to do.  I'm planning to run it but haven't signed up yet.

    Have fun in your training!!

Thanks for the info, for some reason I was thinking the mini-heart was this upcomign weekend, the 12-13 and I wasn't going to be able to do it. Maybe I'll sign up then, I Should be able to on the 20th!!! :)

I'm looking forward to the 1/2 Flying a lot. Definitely a little intimidating b/c it will be my first one... but excited too! :)

I will be doing my 3rd half marathon and 2nd Half Pig in May. The 2009 Flying Pig was my first half marathon and I LOVED it! The atmosphere is amazing, there are people cheering everywhere and it takes you through some great parts of the city. It is very hilly though! As I am sure you are aware since the majority of the city is! I would train to run some very hilly training runs to prepare. Maybe even attempt a run up the Eden Park hill prior to the race as it is IMO the toughest part of the course...from the very bottom to the very top...t is a super challenging hill to conquer but it can be done. GL!

Thanks for the inside scoop on the race! I've heard it was hilly, so I def want to start getting out and running some of the actual course for the next 6-7 weeks! This race is approaching WAY too quickly for me! :)

I volunteer to work the Heart Mini every year... I would definitely recommend it for a training run to prepare for the Flying Pig.  Many of the runners enjoy the Heart Mini for training purposes for upcoming races later in the year.

Whatever your current skill level there is a race for you at this event!!  To register follow this link:

My fiance is one of the head coordinators of the event, so I know all the details.  Congrats on the commitment to do a 1/2 marathon.. I wish you luck!!  Running is such an addiction!
