Check!

So last night FI and I went in search of wedding rings.  Of course FI found one he liked and so we ordered that.  Now for me. BOO!  I am going to have to get my ring custom made if I want it to fit with my E-Ring  or I am going to have to get a band to wear alone and just interchange E-ring and wedding band (not exactly what i want)  But anyway the cost of having a wedding band custom made is so much more then we want to be spending so I am just not sure... FI said to just go for it but I dont know.  Decisions decision!

Re: Check!

  • Tough! We ordered our bands this weekend. My engagement ring is lost, but if I'd still have it, I'd be wearing my band on a different hand.

  • Congrats on the (half) check! My e-ring does not fit perfectly with my band, but I didn't like the look of the custom shaped ones, so I'm just going with it. If it really starts bugging me, I move one of them to my other hand.

  • mine doesn't fit exactly either. i really don't like the look of the custom bands (i am assuming you are talking about the ones that "swoop" out with a curve around the center stone).  mine doesn't fit flush against my engagement ring, but i like it a lot more than the custom fitting ones.

what does your engagement ring look like?
  • At least he found his!!!

I'd say if you want custom, go for it. Honestly, it's the one thing related to your wedding that you'll get use out of every single day. I personally love the one that fiance picked out for me (diamonds all around a thin platinum band, like my e-ring without the solitaire in the middle) so I tend to lean towards more simple, non-custom bands, but it's all in your own personal preference.

  • I never thought to wear my Ering on my other hand.. That is a good idea!  Here is a photo of my ring.  I tried on just a plain band with it and it is really uncomfortable and looks really strange if I wear them toether.

I had a hard time finding a band that looked good with my e-ring too. I have these small diamonds on each side of my center stone (on the sides that a ring would rub up against), and they are just big enough to make a normal ring not sit flush. That bugged the crap out of my so I looked and looked and finally found one with a swoop like butterfly described that looked good with it.

Can you find something that sits underneath your center stone? So it would look like one ring with 3 bands instead of 2? Does that make sense?

  • We had a realy hard time finding a ring that matched up with my engagement ring as well! The band is wider and then it curves in to the center stone. What we ended up doing was buying a drop guard and are getting it cut and flipped so instead of the wedding ring curving out, it will curve in! We bought the service plan so all alterations are included for life so getting it altered isn't costing anything. Good luck! and remember there are lots of options out there.

  • colleen i have a split shank too!!!

i just chose a VERY thin band with diamonds along the top.  the band is the same width as one prong of the split shank.  it sits underneath the big stone in the center, but not exactly flush fit with the side of the split shank.

i totally understand your dilemma because to me, the "swoop" around the center stone(s) kind of took away from the uniqueness of my ring, so i bet you felt the same way.  did you try on any really thin bands?? i tried on a handful of different ones before i found one that looked the best.

also, FYI, fiance is planning to buy me a second matching band for our first anniversary to have more symmetry with the split shank. our jeweler suggested this and said many girls with split shanks do this.....i love the idea so much!!
  • Ladies thanks so much for all of the suggestions!  Lot's of things i never even thought of so I will be sure to keep all of this in mind while I am still shopping around!!
