Renting a dress??

I am on a VERY tight budget. I was thinking of looking into renting my wedding dress. I personally don't want to nor have $2,000 to spend on a dress that I will only where once. I don't know of any one personally that has done this.
Has anyone done this or know of anyone that has done this? Was it worth it? Where can I go? I googled but nothing really jumped out.
Had anyone tried that White Exchange place?

well I know you can get them custom made online in China if you send them the measurements. they are just about maybe $200 total. they were talking about it in the office about a month ago but I don't know anyone who has gone this route.

Not sure... but I also have never met anyone that has worn a $2K dress either! :)

I would recommend trying to go to sample sales.  You can get a nice dress for $400 or less.

Before renting a dress, I would recommend checking out David's Bridal when they are having their $99 gown sale. I haven't known anyone who has had a dress for $2K either, but I do know that dresses could be pricey!!!

My dress is a Mori Lee and I paid under $500 for it. You can definitely find dresses for well under $2K.
I suggest looking at Davids, Alfred Angelo and Mori Lee for beautiful, affordable dresses.

oh and I would NOT trust a China dress maker...there are soooo many horror stories out there about dresses coming in horribly wrong, if they come in.

You might also want to consider evening gowns or prom dresses (since it's spring). Many of those dresses still come in white, cream, ivory etc etc but because they are more simple and not intended for weddings are cheaper. I got a very pretty evening gown for under $500 and it had lots of sparkles.

I got my dress for $400 including tax at a sample sale. I would definitely check out David's Bridal's $99 sale (even though I really don't like that place and it's a zoo during their sale). Another option is that Sue's Alterations in Naperville also does dress rentals. She has a few rooms of her home full of dresses for rent!

Ditto checking out a sample sale.  FI's cousin bought a used dress and it was lovely and fit her beautifully.

I got my knock off Maggie Sottero (the brand is really Forever Yours) for $700. And I like the fabic better than the designer version. But they get ya on the alterations! Total I am paying $1050. But the alterations are so so so individual per person. I wanted to rent mine too, at first, but now I see that I couldn't have gotten the dress to fit my body exactly unless I bought it and altered it to my body. But my dress is strapless and form fitting on the top, so it has to be just right.

Ditto--I have a Mori Lee dress that I paid under $600 for. Also--you might want to check out Nordstrom/JCrew/Limited/White House Black Market/Ann Taylor. All of the stores, minus Norstrom, have wedding lines now.

Many ladies sell their (worn once) designer gowns in hopes of getting back some of their money. Check out some of the websites, many have their gowns cleaned and boxed the next day after the wedding to preserve it to sell....

Just GOOGLE Pre owned wedding dresses.. there are dozens of sites.

I also checked out Bride Power and had a good experience with them, They shipped me a gown to try on, but it did not fit and I returned it they refunded my money promptly....

    Good luck.
