Bridesmaids are all broke?

So my MOH is my younger sister (17 years old) and I know her and her Dad (my ex stepdad) don't have a lot of extra cash. 2 of my bridesmaids are probably okay. The other 3 are on the broke side.

How should I handle their dresses? I know people usually buy their own bridesmaids dresses. I'm trying to take budget into consideration when looking at prices, but it seems that all of the dresses are over $100.

Re: Bridesmaids are all broke?

  • I definitely want to pick the dresses and have them all in the same ones (except my MOH will have something extra special that still fits the same style). I have looked at Nordstrom's and Macy's. The prices seemed to match HOB/David's Bridal.

Maybe I should try lower end ones like Kohls?
  • I don't know how formal  or what style and color you're looking for, but have you considered something like H&M, Forever 21, Gap, or Old Navy? I've found dresses at H&M and Forever 21 that are cheap (usually under $30) and fit my style, which is fairly classic (not a lot of club wear for me). Gap and Old Navy usually have some great standard things in colors. I just saw really pretty maxi dresses at OldNavy.com that came in multiple colors and looked a lot like styles of bridesmaid dresses that I've seen people post here.

You know, I did see a dress in the window at Forever 21 that was our original color choice (fuchsia) and looked like it would fit the bill. I would consider something like that. Now I am thinking golden yellow over fuchsia, though. I don't know why I'm making this so complicated! Maybe I'll go into Forever 21 and look around. I know the price would be such a relief for the ladies I mentioned.
  • Target.com has bridesmaid dresses. I ordered one to see the color in person and it was great, just not the color I was looking for. I think it was one of the more expensive ones at $70. Definitely try there!

<div>I do know that if you're still kind of considering fuchia, that it's EVERYWHERE. You might have a harder time finding golden yellow, but I have seen fuchia shades in every store window all over the city. </div>

  • Fuchsia is everywhere in normal stores, but the local bridal shops don't have it! I can't find it anywhere, and I am in the biggest wedding city in Illinois (Naperville).

Going to look on Target.com right now! Thanks for the tip.
  • Don't forget Penney's either.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • Going to check Penney's!

Target doesn't have either of the colors I was looking into :(
  • Alfred Angelo carries Fuchsia and they do four dresses at $99, if you get them while they do a bridesmaid sale then it's $15 off each dress...just a thought

  • I'd really recommend you step back from the colors you have your mind set on to find a dress your girls can afford.  Their budget is more important than your color of choice.

Penneys has a ton of affordable options:

Once you find something that you like - settle on the color and then start re-envisioning your decor.  I promise you can find beautiful decor in any color at all.

I understand your stance on this, but color is very important to me. I come from a very artistic family and was raised looking through color swatches and putting color schemes together! I will go above and beyond to find a dress in either of the two colors I am in between, but that's as far as I'm going. If a bridesmaid really can't afford their dress, I will offer to help or pay the whole thing. I'd rather do that, you know?
  • If you do order from Target or Forever 21, be careful and try to read reviews if possible, I almost ordered a flower girl dress from target and then read 3 reviews that all said the zipper split before the ceremony! Just make sure that they are made well. Kohls, JCPenney, and Macy's usually have well made dresses that aren't too pricey. Also, short dresses are usually cheaper than long so if the length doesn't matter to you then most places will have short dresses under $100 and should have fuschia, it seems to be a pretty popular color.

What about black or grey dresses and then do the color as the sashes around them or with the flowers? Just an idea. If you are more then willing to pay for the dresses just don't forget the shoe expense too.
