winter accessories for short dress?

I’m throwing together a JOP ceremony for next month (2/18). For multiple reasons (parents only, JOP, parlor of B&B), I decided I wanted a short or tea length dress, even though it’s winter. That was confirmed at the 6 bridal shops I went to as I really disliked all of the long gowns (no matter the silhouette), but what I could find in short dresses, I liked. I didn't end up with any of them because there wasn't enough time to order one in my size.

Then I found this number at a ginormous formal wear store in the mall:

It's hard to tell, but there is a black bow with a small blingy brooch underneath my hand.

I am in love with it! It definitely has a summer-y feel to it though, and I want to winter-fy it.

My ideas so far are a faux fur stole/bolero and/or white gloves. Do you think I and this dress could pull one or both of those off?

Any other ideas to make this slightly more weather appropriate?

Also – shoe ideas? I’m thinking red pumps, but don't want to throw too many "interesting" accessories in there and end up looking tacky.

I'm mainly concerned with stuff matching the black belt/bow (which is attached to the dress pretty good and not removable).

Thanks in advance!

  • I can't tell from the pic, but is the dress pale pink or white?

I think a black faux fur wrap would be nice with it. What about black tights and black heels? I really like that look because it elongates the leg, and I think black tights will "winterize" it. I might skip the white gloves. I am biased because I don't really care for gloves either way. Unless you were thinking long white gloves (like up to the elbow), in which case, i think those might look OK when you have the black wrap on.

  • I think black shoes. Or maybe even a white and black shoe with the wrap and elbow length gloves would look good! I'm not a fan of tights besides on kids ... But that's IMO. What were you going to wear in your hair or how were you planning to do it? BTW I love the dress and I don't think it matters if its winter and wearing a tea length gown. Just my opinion though

  • I guess I don't think it matters either (I do have a short dress after all), part of it is the practical side of it- I'll only be outside while transferring from car to inside, etc. but I'm afraid of those 20 seconds! lol

My hair - haven't decided yet! it probably depends on what, if anything, I may wear over top of the dress. I really like messy side chignons, but I don't know how I will like it on me. Waiting on the hair trial to decide...
