NWR - Skin Care Question

I have always had problem skin (although much better now than throughout my adolescent years). I've been using ProActiv face wash for the last few years to keep the zits away and it works really well for me.

Now, here is the problem. A lot of our towels had bleach spots on them, and I thought it was from FI washing them with some cleaning rags (that had bleachy cleaner on them). Well, we got some new towels for my bridal shower and FI washed them. They came out fine, no bleach spots. A day later, my towel is covered in bleach spots and FI's towel is fine. So, obviously it is something on me that is bleaching the towels. I started investigating and I've come to the conclusion that it has to be the ProActiv. It says on the label that it can bleach dyed fabrics, but I wash my face at the beginning of my shower and figured after the rest of my shower it should be diluted enough that it wouldn't bleach anything. I guess I was wrong. Now my brand new towel is ruined and I have to buy another.

So the question is, what does everyone use on their face? I'm looking for something for problem skin that won't bleach our towels.

I have dealt with acne my whole life and have used almost every product! Just recently I started using Say Yes to Tomatoes acne products, you can get them at Target. And I absolutely love them! They are so light and smell amazing!

I use Cetaphil and I don't have any trouble with our colored towels.

I'm pretty sure ProActive contains benzoyl peroxide...that's what's bleaching your towels.

I've had some pretty bad reactions to benzoyl peroxide, so I've never used ProActive. Right now, the skin care routine that's working for me is using Cetaphil cleanser (the only cleanser that I can use...it's oil free, fragrance free, and soap free), Clinique clarifying lotion in mild (I've tried the #2 formula before, that was a disaster), and then the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer in the gel for combination/oily skin. I also use the Vitamin C face polish from the Body Shop 2-3 times a week as an exfoliator. Sometimes, I also use the Tea Tree line from the Body Shop too.

I only use Clinique makeup, everything else does not agree with my skin.

That's what works for me, but I know everyone has different sensitivities.

Yes, benzoyl peroxide will bleach your towels. Prescription topical gels will bleach pillow cases as well. We usually buy white or cream colored towels and sheets so that there isn't any color for the chemical to bleach.

I use a Neutrogena face wash in the mornings and Cerave hydrating cleanser at night. I also have a topical gel that my dermatologist prescribed that probably does most of the work.

ProActiv does contain benzoyl peroxide (2.5%), but unfortunately that is usually the only thing that works for me. I still thought that with me using it at the beginning of the shower it would be washed away enough and diluted enough not to bleach my towels. Kind of scary what we put on ourselves for beauty!

RunNanny - I just looked up Say Yes to Tomatoes and it has great reviews, is cheaper than ProActiv and is way more natural. I've never heard of it. I think I'll have to try it!!

I get cystic acne and nothing over the counter would work for me, my dermatologist gave me Sodium Sulfacetamide Lotion 10%. I love it, I normally get those painful pimples all month long, but I now only get 1 when AF is there. I have never had a problem with it bleaching any of my towels or bed sheets. I also use clean and clear morning burst every morning and Origin's Checks and Balances every night.

I love Skyn Iceland products. They're a little on the expensive side, but I think they're totally worth it. You can buy a smaller travel kit for cheaper to try out their products to see if they will work for you. They're all natural and I haven't had issues with discolored towels.

I use the Mary Kay time wise collection. Never, ever thought I'd be a Mary Kay girl but my MUA has been using it for 10 years and looks no older then me (27) but she's 35.

In the morning I use the 3 in 1 cleanser, day cream, moisturizer and then the eye firming cream. At night I the same process except I use the night serum instead of day cream. My skin is so much softer, clearer and just more supple. I never have an issue with my towels either.

I'd say get a white towel you use for your face only.

I've been using neutragena natural face wash, the scrub in the shower. Then I have eye cream my friend at Ultra gave me a sample of, and bare minerals moisturizer in the morning (SPF 30) and a retinal cream for break outs at night. She hooked me up for pre-wedding skin lol.

Proactiv definetly stains!! I used it briefly in high school and it was awful. I use the Avene soap free cleanser now. I love it becuase it's gentle but still keeps my acne under control. I use Clinique dark spot corrector for my post acne scars and Neutrogena water light face sunscreen as as moistuizer.

I second Cetaphil. Around 25 or so, my skin started breaking out worse than it had in years. It was like being 14 all over again! I went to a dermatologist who said part of the problem is people try to do too much to their skin, or use expensive products that don't work any better than drugstore. She suggested just plain ol' Cetaphil, and it helped immensely.

Also, she recommended Neutrogena, which I had used on/off for years. I love it. Mostly, I use the body wash because between summer heat and working out a lot, I don't want to get any breakouts on my back or chest!

This. It's definitely the peroxide in it. I'm no help with other products, I only used to have breakouts with my cycle and now that I'm older (40) my skin is changing (becoming drier) and I seem to break out different than I used to. I guess because I'm getting closer to menopause. yikes.

Ditto! I also add in the microdermabrasion set 2x a week and I've been adding the Serum C solution because I've had some fine lines on my forehead but the solution is taking care of those!
