NWR - TV Provider HELP!!!

I need your help!! FI has left it up to me since I "sit at a computer all day" for my work and I have time to "look up stuff" .. I'm going to drop kick him haha but I need to decide on a TV provider for our new place by today! I don't even know all the choices I have but can you throw some names out there and your experience with them so I can check into the packages that they offer?!?!? TIA

Re: NWR - TV Provider HELP!!!

  • AT&T U-Verse is pretty good, if it's available in your area. They have all kinds of specials running all the time, like $30 off for 6 months, plus a $50 rewards card...Then if you call when that promo runs out, they'll usually add another promo for you, so you never have to pay full price. The promos vary every month though.
  • FI and I have Directv. They are really great and we have not the basic package but the next one up. Plus DVR and HD and in 2 rooms. It's about $60 a month. They always offer promtional free packages for 3 months and stuff. There are several packages to choose from depending on what you need and want.

Also my parents used to have Comcast and FMIL has them and I find them horrible. They are no help and the bill is super high for just basic stuff. I think FMIL pays $70 for just basic channels no box or anything extra. I would not go with them!

FBIL has Dish and it is a little cheaper than us I think they pay about $50. But they don't have half the channels that we get and anytime it rains they lose their tv.

I have had AT&T uverse for about 3 years now and LOVE IT. However, it's not available in my FI's area, so we'll be using Directv after I move next.  He and my parents have had Directv for a couple of years and haven't had many complaints

  • i liked AT&T Uverse, however, I wouldn't count on their "promotions".  When I signed up they were offering $100 Visa card or something like that if you stayed for at least 3 months, well I've had them for two years and never got any kind of card from them.  When I asked about it after the three months they denied anything about the promotion.  Other than that their rates are lower than the cable provider around here.

Time Warner Cable sucks major balls, they're incredibly expensive, they constantly increase their rates and their customer service is in the toilet.  I would rather not have cable and internet if they were my only option.
  • We have U-Verse, it's awesome.  We signed up just as they were opening in our area, so after the cashback promos (they seriously sent me checks!), I actually got paid to set it up, lol

<div>This! I hate TimeWarner but it is the only cable provider for our apartment building and I didn't want satelite. Our bill for cable and internet is insane!</div>
  • We have Comcast because we have no other choice. Comcast has a monopoly on cable here, and we can't get anything else unless it was Dish or DirectTV. We pretty much hate them as their costs are high, we have to have a box if you want more than four channels, and they're just unreliable.

This made me LOL because they're the only cable provider in our area and they do suck MAJOR balls! They're so expensive we actually don't have cable. We watch current shows online or wait until they come out on Netflix. It's actually turned out to be awesome because we save money and spend less time watching TV.
We have internet through Verizon who's okay. We might switch if we had another option but they're the least expensive in our area.

  • U-Verse is really amazing but it has the pricetag to match. We got a local provider.

  • We have Comcast and we have a pretty great deal with the triple play bundle. Our price will go up I think 10 dollars each year for 3 years, but at times they call offering new services for discounted prices and you can always call and say " The price is too high I am switching to..." and they will usually lower your bill.

I would ask around and get a quote for the different services in your area along with what the service is you are getting and compare that way.

  • We have Comcast and like it well enough. It is a little on the expensive side, but it's reliable (for us) and I didn't have to have new holes drilled into my house for a dish. I think we pay $120 for cable and internet. We don't have basic internet or basic cable, the internet we have is faster than basic internet and we have extra sports channels, plus HBO.

We have ATT Uverse and it's been great.  I'd heard that the service itself was fantastic but that the customer service was a little lacking.  However, I haven't had any problems.  But it is a bit pricey.

The only thing I would add about satellite is that if it is very windy, snowing, or raining/storming often times the signal is degraded or you can't get one at all.  My parents have DirectTV and besides that problem (which all satellite will have) it was fine.  Just FYI I suppose.
