recipe suggestions

Hey everyone,  me and my husband are hosting a party in a few weeks.  It's Vino Casino. . . . which means I need appetizers that go well with red wines.  I'm hoping to put my 3 crock crockpot to use, each pot is 1.5 quarts.  Does anyone have any crockpot recipes for dips or whatnot that might fit the bill?  Thanks!

Re: recipe suggestions

  • I would suggest maybe doing a cheese fondue in one. Cheddar cheeses are good with red wines. I also suggest Googling it or seeing if anyone has ideas on Pinterest.

A non-crock pot app that is always a big hit in my crowd is bacon wrapped waterchestnuts. They are super easy to do, and if you are doing a lot of cooking/prepping the day of, you can prep them the night before and store in the fridge over night.

  • This is not a crockpot recipe but it is great for a wine get together and my guests usually LOVE IT.

Baked Brie with Cranberries, Almonds and Apricot Jelly
Buy premade pastry dough (in the fridge isle with the cressent rolls)
Thaw the dough and spread Apricot Jelly on the dough
On top of the jelly- sprinkle almond slivers and dried cranberries (Crasins will work)
Then place a store bought Brie cheese wheel on top of this and close up the dough
Flip the dough, cheese cirlce over so the seams are on the bottom of the baking sheet and put in the oven for 20 minutes.

    Serve with crackers...SO GOOD!

  • I also think that if you want to use your three container crock pot you can make cheese fondue, chocolate fondue and meatballs.

A VERY easy meatball recipe I make uses just grape jelly and chile sauce - 1 jar of each. Throw that in the crock pot with frozen meatballs and you are good to go.

Just a side note, I was looking into getting a 3 container crock and the website I saw it listed on states that it is not a cooker but rather a warmer...so be sure that it gets to the temperature you need it to be in order to actually cook these things!

    Have fun!

  • Everything sounds delicious! Thanks. I will look at the crockpot and determine if it is a warmer or cooker, I just assumed it was a cooker
  • I  third the meat ball idea, but I disagree with the cheese/Chocolate (unless you have a warmer and not a cooker.)

Maybe a spinach and artichoke dip? that might fare a little better on the warm setting if you have a cooker. Chocolate will dry out and unless you want to serve nachos, I don't recommend melted cheese with wine, just do a platter.

Also, a fruit dip would go well.
  • For a non crockpot suggestion, my first thought was bruschetta.  Chop up some tomatoes, mix with balsamic vinegar, salt pepper, fresh chopped basil, and a bit of olive oil.  Toast up some bagette slices and top with tomato mixture before serving.
