Life - On Discovery

Has anybody watched the "LIFE" series on Discovery Channel? It's on now. It's pretty rad (although narrated by Oprah, I'd rather have Mike Rowe tell me a story). The pictures are simply amazing.

Re: Life - On Discovery

  • I'm not watching it now, but I did watch a bunch of them.  I was not a fan of Oparh narrating though.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Yeah, Oprah can stick to her talk show. Storytelling isn't her forte.

  • I've watched nearly every one of them, and they are indeed, awesome. Oprah narrating it is proof that the 2012 theory is true. Oprah is going to show you how neat the planet is before she destroys it, and she can, because she's the antichrist. Srsly.

  • Yes, I was watching the Birds episode the other day.  I feel quite fortunate, as I was able to picture the mating dance of Nugget's FI as that of a Spatuletail hummingbird, instead of a crazy naked guy dancing around the house.

I will say that I don't like it as much as Planet Earth, though.

Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

    That is an awesome theory!
  • I guess the one on now is the first one? I'm not sure. It's about starfish eating a dead baby seal.
  • A few of the episodes really grossed me out, like the sea snake one. Fvck a damn sea snake.

  • I love the series. The "hunters" episode was my favorite.

I like Planet Earth better also.

  • Hmm, I still have yet to see Planet Earth. As long as Oprah isn't telling the story, I'm in!
  • These spider crabs are creepily cool. Their "dance" is amazing!
  • Sigourney Weaver does Planet Earth. I liked her narrating. She has a soothing voice. Oprah thinks she's funny and she's not and it bugs me.

Sigourney Weaver narrates Planet Earth.  She is a good narrator.

That's it.. I could not point my finger on it but I just did not like Oparh.  I think you are right it's her attempt to by funny is really annoying.

  • Makes you wonder if she approached Discovery or if they approached her. I'm sitting here thinking "shut up already!".

She probably called Discovery and made them do the whole thing. It's part of her apocalypse plan. I've thought about this way too much, clearly.

  • HAHA! That's funny!
  • I have not watched Life.  We lack cable.  I'm watching Spinal Tap instead.

I love you. Also, I want my obituary to say I died in a bizarre gardening accident. No matter how I die. I had my boss notarize a document I wrote up stipulating this, so it should happen.

  • I hope I choke on vomit when I die...somebody else's vomit.

Maybe its better left a case unsolved.

  • Shelly, have you ever seen Best In Show? It has some of the same writers and actors from Spinal Tap and I think that's why I loved it so much.

  • That series is awesome, and not just because they had an entire episode about monkeys.

Okay, it totally was because they had an entire episode about monkeys.

  • No, but when I double checked to make sure I had my facts straight on BIS and SP, that came up. And I'm going to see if I can stream it on Netflix like right now.
